This was on one of my f+f machines the other day. Went to reload software, and something to the effect of "error accessing hard drive" popped up.

Would popping a new, blank HD in there, followed by reloading the software, cure this problem? Any specific drive I should buy?

Thanks!
Mike

drive

A lot of older systems used SCSI drives or very small drives by todays standards. If you're going to do all the work of replacing the HD. Change it to a flash drive with an adapter. It will last forever.

I would also say get a flash drive. Although I wouldn't say they last forever since my Killer Instinct 1 was taken out by the power supply. Couldn't rewrite it or anything and had to get a totally new flash drive and write it on there. Also just a note I had seen a video of someone doing a speed test on a hard drive that had 2 games on it (Blitz & hangtime) and the read test from the CPU was lower on the flash drive than it was on the hard drive and you could see a differnece. So if you ever get a double game hdd don't get a flash drive as loading times and lag time was unsatisfactory.

speeds

If you buy a quality flash drive it should meet or exceed the speeds of the hard drive that was installed originally. Shop around a bit...

Guys I'm not 100% sure a flash drive would work on this application. I would think it is a bit more advanced than the Midway/Atari games of yesteryear.

pretty sure it will, i use them on my 1994-1996 ki and ki2 :D even better someone started using DOM solid state drives :-O

I have used SATA SSD drives for that game as well as BBH Pro series games.
Although the SATA didnt work on Target Terror, only regular IDE to CF worked.
I decent 16GB Sata SSD will do the trick. the game is only around 4GB-5GB.

F&F's running on the MicroTel PC's used a 20 or 40gig IDE drive. The motherboards oin those computers do have SATA ports but they dont always work. I've got TONS of 40GIG WD's if you want one. $10.00 each plus shipping....

If you managed to end up with an F&F running on the Dell OptiPlex740 platform then its got a SATA drive and any sized drive will work in that game.

As to the comments about flash, for this game its not a good idea.

The original F&F Drifts came out on a USB flash drive. They were SLOW and crashed within 6 months of operation. This game is running inside of windows so the drive is constantly being accessed. A flash drive would reach its end of life REALLY quickly in this case.

What version are you trying to reload? You could have a bad CD or a bad CD Rom drive as well. I can give you a copy of F&F 2.08 (latest version for the MicroTel PC's) or F&F 3.00 if your running a Dell. Oh, MicroTel PC's are well known for bad caps...
