So I'm working on restoring a Gauntlet that was converted to a JAMMA fighter. I bought a sound board and rebuilt most of the wiring harnesses and bought a cheap Gauntlet II board off of eBay. It all works great but after a little while it warms up a bit and when the bass-ier sounds hit it starts chirping and eventually begins making an annoying sound like farting.

Like so:

The chips test out OK in the menu test. So I'm not sure where to begin or where to look. Any ideas?

:lmao: Oh Gez!...

Yup...Sounds to me like some stuck a Whoopee Cushion in your cab.

The Gauntlet Schematics show the game has two speakers.

1. Check the cab. and see if the "Whoopee" sound is coming from one or both speakers.

2. Check the speaker wiring and make sure it's hooked up correctly to that speaker(s).

3. Also are the cab. speakers known to work OK with other boards?

4. Is the AR known to work good with other boards?

5. Does the MAIN board (GAUNTLET PCB) sound good in another cab?

Checked the speakers prior to posting. It's on both. I think it's something on the Amp in that the sound repeats over and over even after I change sounds in the sound test and it stops. I recapped the amp board today as well but I think the transistors might have gone bad. It might be the transistors. Got some freeze spray so I'm going to contine to diagnose.

If your speakers are not blown, then they sure sound out of whack.

Double check your GAUNTLET cab.'s speaker wiring--Make sure it's wired up for STEREO--and not MONO.

JAMMA cabs are usually wired for MONO sound. GAUNTLET cabs. are usually wired for STEREO sound.

Mixing up the speaker wires can causes sound problems.

Follow the the STEREO sound wiring schematics on page 21 & 22 in the GAUNTLET Schematics.

(See link above.)

It's an easy check.

PCB fault!

Actually it's not. If it was the PCB it'd be effected by the volume pot and that sound was too loud despite the pot being turned down pretty low. I suspect it's one of the transistors as after the farting began and it began an infinite fart loop I sprayed freeze spray on the two heat sinks for the two transistors on the sound amp and it went away. Anything else this could be? Now I need to look for two TDA2030's. Any suggestions?

It's wired stereo. I rebuilt the wiring myself from the schematics to and from the amp board to the speakers as well as to and from the PCB. It might sound off because I'm recording video on my cell phone. What exactly sounds off besides the "farting"?

Whack = "farting sound."

I agree: The game sounds fine when it first starts up--before the "farting" should starts.

Ok, if the speakers work, and the cab. is wired for STEREO, and the PCB works, then it's the AR board.

Yeah, replace the transistors, and lets see what happens next.

Thanks! Was just looking at those. I'll shoot him a PM to hopefully get a clue as to what specifically will work.
