I have a very good condition RCT and an opportunity to trade for a RFM locally. I'd love to have a RFM but the one locally is 'heavily used'. Some lift and cracking on the clearcoat over a few of the lights. Not a massive deal I suppose but I am a bit of a perfectionist.

Anyway, assuming i'm ok with the wear when I see it in person, is a straight up trade something I should be ok with you think?

Thanks for any input

Value wise I think you are pretty similar, nice RCTs are $1800-2300 depending on where you are and RFMs are 1800-2700 depending on condition and location. If the RFM has that much wear, then you will want to make sure the monitor/CPU are in good shape and not about to fail. If they look sketchy I'd be looking for some cash coming your way to do the deal.

Make sure both the PSU on the main board has a good fan on it and is not noisy, and
the fan on the CPU is fully working, if either these items are locked up or noisy, replace both at once, a locked CPU fan can equal a cooked processor, and a blown AT PSU means no game or maybe a blown CPU board.

You can get replacement parts now, but its not very cheap.

I suggest you ask the seller to power up the machine and leave it running for at least a couple hours before you arrive. Then play several games (put in at least a half-hour of play time).

Then turn it off again and turn it back on to check for start up errors too.. Think of it like looking at a vehicle you want to buy. I never like the RFM can't see the damn back of the playfield, It's a poor design by Williams and the looks of the pinball 2000 machines are horrible, there a reason why they only made 2 machines like this and then went out of business soon after. Is RCT your only pinball machine?

I'm not here to have a dicussion on whether or not RFM is a good game. But I do appreciate your opinion...Its not an uncommon opinion as you know.

I did see him start it up, clear of errors and then played it for a good 20 mins

I don't know, that RFM has some mileage on it. Pretty sloppy touch ups on the cabinet, wear around the flipper buttons, beat scoop hole (even with the cliffy over it), insert wear/lifting, etc.

I'd place this on the LOW end of RFM's pricewise.

Currently the avg. EBAY price on RFM is 2,182

Currently the avg. EBAY price for RCT is 2,165

I'd offer him a trade of your game plus 200 (unless your game is in avg shape) and see what he says.

If it were me and my RCT were in nice shape I wouldn't trade straight up.

Ya do keep your RCT, you put that your a perfectionist so I'am thinking your RCT is in grreat condition then.
