I'm pretty much broke right now, but I really want a Galaga. Been my grail since before I even started collecting games.

I do have a Asteroids Cabaret, and was wondering if it would be a decent trade for a Galaga upright.

The Cabaret is in fair shape, few scratches on the wood paneling side, but it's very solid.

Monitor needs capped, as the top half is squished in to the middle right now (something I would fix before trading) and the PCB needs a RAM chip (also something I would replace first)

So, think I could get a decent Galaga for this? The Cabarets are supposedly more rare than the uprights.

i'm guessing not, though it can't hurt to try.

Asteroids is a $250-$500 machine in an upright, probably a bit less as a cabaret (again, rarity doesn't necessarily equal higher value.) Galaga is still commanding $400+ and continues to be in demand with the public thus keeping the price relatively high.

Yeah, I know the rarity isn't a factor, sadly. I really like the Asteroids, but would trade it in an instant for a Galaga.

since both of these cabs are rarities here in uk and considering galaga is also my holiest of grails (not found one yet) i would say go for it,luckily i got the upright asteroids which i like very much, another of my grails,i have never played on a cabaret(well if i did it was a very long time ago) as i am well into my 40's now.
:)

If the Galaga is a grail of yours, and someone would be interested in what you have to trade, go for it. Sometimes it's not the dollar for dollar value, it's simply trading something you have that someone else would enjoy, for something that you would enjoy yourself. If it works out for both parties, then the dollar value is irrelevant.

Is cabaret desirable to you? Personally, I would never want a cabaret asteroids as it has no side art and a 13" monitor.

I would say your game is worh 50%-75% of a galaga. It really depends on the galaga. Most are average to beat shape.. So I would guess a price range on a galaga is $350-$750.

Gotta say playing AD on Sentient's cabaret is pretty cool, even if it doesnt' have the baddass blacklight effects and all. Especially when I kick everybody else's ASS ahem I mean score on it too :)

Well this post may not sit well with some, but I play Galaga on a 60-1 multi jamma board nearly everyday. And I play my Asteroids nearly every day in a dedicated cab. It's not that I wouldn't enjoy having a dedicated Galaga, but the fact is, Asteroids is not on my multi jamma..

I totally agree, and that's why I don't need/want a lot of games that come on the 60 in1.

I realize it's not nearly the same, but every time I build one (and sell it) I get my fill playing several games.
