So, I bought a dual monitor PC10 the other day, and the lower monitor was being funny, so I decided to try and put a cap kit in it. The cap kit came in the mail from Bob Roberts, so I looked up a bunch of old threads here and watched a few YouTube videos on how to do it. Well I found a ton of information on how to discharge the monitor and how to actually put the new caps in, but I couldn't find a proper way on how to actually get the board out. I thought I could do it myself, but it ended up being a huge mess, and now the monitor is sitting on the ground with a bunch of unplugged wires, and I got so confused that I couldn't even put it back to the way it was if I wanted to. I'm pretty sure that if I go back downstairs and try it again I'll just get super frustrated.

Anyways, I was wondering if there were any reasonably priced arcade repair type people in the Seattle/Portland area that could clean up my mess for me.

Ugh, thanks.

Jeff

Yeah, he seems to be very knowledgeable about a ton of things, but that would be a 6 hour drive there and back. I guess I'll send him a pm if I don't find someone a bit closer.

Thanks for the help!

You say you have a dual monitor play choice and you just pulled one monitor right? I may be wrong as I've never owned the dual monitor version but couldn't you simply take a look at the other monitor that you didn't remove to get an idea where everything goes?

I feel you man. I just had a tech came yesterday to cap my Crossbow. I thought about getting the kit from Bob and try to do it myself, but I decided I don't have time to start the learning curve. I called my tech up and he spent about 2+ hours to install and get the color right for me and throw in a 3-prone powercord, installed a pause button for me, all for a mere $50. Money well spent, and oh I gave him a $30 tips.

Ok this might seem like a dumb question but sense I have never seen the inside of a dual monitor PC10 , is the other monitor the same monitor? If it is use that as a guide for putting everything back the way it should be. Lesson in the future, until you do so many monitors you can do them blind folded get a camera and take plenty of pictures before you take it apart.
If not then what monitor is it? I am sure someone has pictures :D

I could help as well, problem is I'm the the same exit off I-5 as Dokert. If you decide you want to bring it up this way, I'd be willing to take a look at it. - Barry

You need to go to one of their repair partys.
I am sure they would invite you if you ask :D

Well I believe that they're both the Sanyo 20EZ monitors, so I COULD take the other monitor out, compare it with the one that was already taken out and put it back together, but the I'd still have a monitor in need of new caps. I don't really want to take the second one out and have it turn out the same way too, you know?

I guess a 3 hour drive up by Marysville wouldn't be too bad, and I have a friend I could visit in Everett. Maybe I'll take a few pictures and see what you guys think, that sounds like a good idea.

Thank you for all of the suggestions you guys, I appreciate it very much!

is there a way to look at the second monitor while it's in the cab instead of taking it out?

Did you get the cap kit installed and are just trying to get everything plugged back together? Someone could probably get you pics.I probably can tomorrow?

Well there's a a few shield things in the way that cover up what I need to see. It's not like I was just pulling wires like crazy or anything, so I could probably figure it out, but I feel like I would put something back together wrong and mess it up even worse. If you can't tell, I know next to nothing about arcade machines! Ha

Here's a picture of the monitor as it sits now, I believe the part I'm holding is the part that needs new caps, but I can't even get it out of there to put them in. It looks like the wires still holding it there are soldered in place at both ends, so am I supposed to de-solder them to get it out?

I haven't even had the chance to put the caps on, because I can't remove the board all of the way.

That board under your fingers snaps out. There are little plastic clips that hold it in.

On my DK JR, I was able to compress the plastic tabs that hold the board in and then lift the board over the tabs to take it out.

I did the cap kit with all the other sub components still attached to the board without cutting any wires.
I was pretty overwhelmed at first too...

Well I've got it loose from the plastic snaps that were connecting it, but now what's holding it back are a couple set of wires that look like they can't be unplugged.

I also discharged the monitor and removed it from the machine, so I don't think that I run the risk of shocking myself now.

So, a really awesome member here, freckledpeas, came over to trade/buy some machines from me, and he pushed me in the right direction on where to go with this. I think that I may have just been a bit too frustrated to actually see things clearly, but right now the board is sitting downstairs ready to be capped. He even walked me through the first one, so I think that I'll be good to go!

I'll update the thread with the results.

Make sure you go nice and slow. My first cap kit was also a Sanyo 20EZ and it was by no means "EZ" :p

It would be better in hindsight to spend a couple hours going slow and doing it right and ending up with a beautiful picture rather than rushing to get it done and mess up and botch the entire thing.

If youd like, heres some inspiration from my first cap kit on my DK:
