Face meet Palm - Graded Playchoice?

That's ridiculous! Put that game to use. Don't just keep it in a box! Who wants to stare at a Playchoice box anyway?

I saw that yesterday and literally laughed out loud. That is the most idiotic thing I've seen in a while.

That is the perfect embodiment of FAIL.

I read a lot about AFA grading for action figures (SW). AFA has a great business. They'll basically grade anything you send them, as long as you pay them. The item then has a greater perceived value. Someone ends up paying a high amount for a loose Ugnaught in an acrylic box, which drives a lot of sellers to get things AFA graded. Vicious cycle. An unopened, boxed, AT-AT, sealed in an acrylic chamber is quite a sight though..

The difference is really, action figures can still be looked at and enjoyed through an acrylic case. you can't play a video game through the case.

unless you're in to playing with the action figures, then then argument doesen't work.

I bet no one would have a problem with this if it was one of those uber rare playchoice titles like ninja gaiden 3 or whatever else was supposedly produced but never found.

I was going to have my copy framed but I still like playing it.

To me keeping a game sealed is ridiculous. They were made to be played. Also there is no art on the box so its not even cool to look at.

Coins? Sure, done that myself. Trading cards? Depending on the card it can make snese. Comics? Yeah, seen plenty of that. A sealed non-greatest hits FFVII? Wouldn't surprise me given the high prices for those. A PC10 Punchout? Now they've lost me. Maybe in some circles the condition of the box it's new in makes a difference w/ PC10 collectors but I don't really see the sense in it.

Professional grading is such a gigantic waste of money. I can understand comics and action figures because they can be "displayed" almost like a piece of artwork. however, this is a white shipping box. Whoopty freakin' do. Ridiculous.

I tried to post this from my phone...so hopefully I don't double post... :p

Anyways, this grading crap hit the console collecting scene a few years ago and it sucked. If there are two things I hate about every hobby, ever, it's exploitation and artificial value inflation. These "professional" grading systems are the double whammy. It isn't just some dude that doesn't know the value of the item. It's some dude thinking he can artificially add more value to the item by paying a con to slap it in a box and give him a piece of paper with a grade on it.

The last chump in the exploitation line can't even utilize the item. In most cases with games, an item whose real value is in being able to use it.

The concept becomes a little bizarre with average arcade PCB's, because the people who know it's an arcade PCB already know the value...and those that don't just see a box or a motherboard. With console games, at least everyone has a visual familiarity with what it is. A boxed NES Mike Tyson's Punchout has value because everyone of a certain age group knows what that is (it's still retarded). A boxed Punchout PCB is about as familiar to people outside the hobby as a carburetor out of a Dodge Dart.

*Catch my breath* with all that said, I guess...even though I hate it...I could see super rare PCB's sitting inside these stupid graded plastic shells.

...but PC-10 Punchout...is that really rare? Are either version even not common? As in Mike Tyson Punchout? Isn't that like...a default game with most PC-10's? Like Fatal Fury for MVS?
