F$%@ing craigslist resellers!

Yeah, I didn't realize that either, he is mad someone else bought it and someone else was selling it. The thread makes no sense. It is complaining about someone else's business which has nothing to do with the person mentioning it.

Just like the thread with the guy complaining about not getting a "free" item because he changed the time and would have had to drive 70 miles (knowing how anyone giving away something wants to give it away)

I don't know, sometimes the "rants" on here make no sense at all.

The part you're not understanding is, he had no intention of buying it, even for $75. Now he's bitching that somebody else bought it.
Oh, he's just upset that someone else is capitalizing on a deal. Oh well, too bad, so sad. Or just carry on.

Picking up arcade machines are a hassle, imho, and the 'flipper' is not guaranteed $500 by any means. He might be stuck with a behemoth for months, taking up valuable space in the garage over winter and eventually 'give it away' for $150. Is it worth it? I don't think so. Or he could make $425 that evening. Good for him, I guess.

I understand the frustration with flippers not doing anything to 'earn' the immediate rise in value but there isn't much you can do about that.

There was a local guy who picked up a couple of huge, monstrous games for free when a local place closed down.

He has been trying to sell them for months since then, no takers I think.

I can't remember exactly what, but I have picked up a few and sold them later for profit. (after rebuilding power supplies, cleaning up etc.)

plenty of times I have picked stuff up and sold it for the same price (or cheaper) after cleaning it up and fixing the power supply, etc.

There's plenty of flippers out there. Most of them don't have the skill or ability to make it keep lasting. For sure the sale you missed may have been a great flip. But for me flipping stuff means knowing what the bottom line is and that sometimes you'll take a loss. I bid on tons of ebay merchandise for repairing and reselling. Sometimes I get a steal, sometimes I get beat out at the last second. Shrug it and move on, emotions will only hamper your business. You can always contact the new buyer and offer him $200 for it, and still turn it yourself if the cab is good enough. He'll bite in a month if you are patient.

I flip games to make money for games I want, probably being sold by other flippers to get games they want..... life goes on....

So how about a new thread, "The most money made on the simplest flip" thread....
I bought a Outrun for $19, installed a fuse (from the cabinet bottom) back into the monitor, cleaned it up, removed $5 in quarters from the cabinet, and sold it for $235....
True story.... and $221 went into my pocket to go buy an APB from Gabesdad1981...

So what is wrong with that? I get a free game I wanted, money in my pocket when the deals were done..... Gabesdad1981 got money in his pocket, and someone got a nice Outrun for a decent price.... Drives the economy of collecting!!

I did see a Funhouse go off the Dayton Craigslist for $500 and pop up nearby for $3,000... I was pissed only because I didn't get the $500 funhouse... lucky bastard who did get it, even if they flipped it.....

But, honestly, I get to buy more games I want because I do flip good deals. So next time you sell a game, think that maybe your buyer just flipped/sold something to be able to pay you.

Well yesterday someone posted up a working nfl blits 2player on cl for $75, and I was like wow great deal!! That will make someone happy to have it in there gameroom. But no someone just bought it and put it back up for sale for $500 !! Man if you don't really want it let someone that does get a good deal! Now just for the record I didn't want it just sayin I'm tired of seeing this happen.(would have got it if I had room : (

Has many outhers seen this happen?

Damn you America! Damn you free enterprise system!

Should be right in your wheel house... http://youtu.be/3QZlp3eGMNI

I really don't understand these posts... Honestly, you snooze you lose, I have had to really hustle to get some craigslist deals that I wanted. I have also flipped games or traded them. We have all lost out on deals, trades, auctions, etc. I guess I'm just missing what is the problem here?

LOL, the jet ski game and the snowboard game that came from the Sunrise Fun Center! I saw the post for those being left in the parking lot for anyone that wanted them, then the two ads popped up trying to sell these awesome games that have been in their home collection for a long time..... the snowboard one broke and they tried for weeks to get something out of it, then gave it away. The jet ski game has been listed from I think $750 down to like $200, I saw it jump back up to $650 so I think he traded it and the new guy started over on making a mint off of it.

I've missed out on some good deals in the past, I tried to get a Star Wars but the guy never responded. After I joined here I figured it out that it was a member selling it, I wish I would have been here then and maybe got a shot at it. Either way you can't get mad at people for making a buck, I myself have decided its not the best thing to do.

it happens man...

i got a scooter once.. it was a 07 tank brand(chinese) 250cc scooter.. posted in the free section with a title.... so i reply knowing damn well theres 50 emails about the thing so i put (will pay cash) in the title of the email. 2 minutes later i have a phone call from him. I offer $25 sight unseen and i own it. after getting it home, man it was rough.. he had laid it over twice and he was pissed off at it. didnt run.. I did get it running, the thing was super rough but drove out like a new one man.. reposted on craigs for $400 obo, happily took $250, hes happy he got a super cheap scooter(they sell for 1-1.2k new) i was happy to make a little money, win-win man..

we all want to be the $75 game buyer.. just doesent always work out that way. Sometimes, wvery once in awhile though, itll be your turn to be the lucky dog..

Damn I guess im doing something wrong! I havent profited off a game in years, usually take a loss just to get rid of it and make room for something else. The days of flipping these antiques are over for now IMO.

yep i got in right as the market flopped. oh well.. makes games i buy cheaper heh i just have to remind myself that if i every want to sell or trade it will be a losing proposition.. I have a couple games i will just keep forever because theres no way im gonna lose as much as i have in em just to move them out the door, oh no i guess i have to keep them and play and enjoy them :D

THe plus side to the krappy economy is that recently i was able to get a couple games for dirt cheap and pass em on to you guys, one guy bought one at a small profit to me(covered my time getting it working) and i traded the other game for one i really wanted. so in the end i ended up with a "free" game.. nothing wrong with that man.
win-win-win there. i couldve been greedy and gone for top buck, but that isnt me man.

Um.. while potentially annoying, I understand it. Fair game.

It's not just CL, look at yard sales today. It's not uncommon to see someone scanning ISBN numbers into their smart phones to see if a book is 'rare'. If it is, a picker/dealer will likely find it before a collector/enthusiast.

Same thing with eBay. Lots of rarer items used to go cheap before the Internet showed up and messed it up for the bargain hunters. I do still see stupid sellers occasionally showing up and placing 'buy it now' prices that are 1/20 what an item is worth sometimes (especially re: antique pre-videogame coin-op machines).

We all love a good story in which a collector finds a treasured gem at a bargain but life is competitive, and the world continues to get smaller and smaller every day. Thus these stories will be rarer and your resellers will grow. I'm actually impressed by how much CL is the exception to the rule since bargains do seem to pop up there all the time.

I agree with my good friend Greg.

I have no problem selling a game for a profit. Hell, my 8 vids are now completely paid for with the profit from selling games.

exactly sir.. its nice when you can do that.. you make a little $, it goes right back to your addiction (lol) another collector gets a game.
