What is the secret to adjusting these? Trying hard as hell to get an 8-way Wico to move diagonally. I have been slightly bending back and forth with needle nose pliers and got three diagonal directions to work. However in the process I broke three switches. I don't want to break any more. There is a trick right? Has to be a trick.

The centering grommet is new.

Are the switches clean?
Is the buttons Gold plated?
If the leaf switch has been sanded. It hard to make them work right after the fact.

I hope this help.

are you sure they're not 4 ways? (diamond pattern on upper half of base instead of round).

make sure to check the common ground leads and all crimps...those crimp connectors can work loose or actually lose connection over time and wear....ive had some look good but not give a signal....turn the cpo over while fired up and watch the stick contact the leafs, if you see it hit and depress the leaf then you know it should be sending the info to the pcb....if you see that then check the crimp/solder joints

i had one stick that the leaf was bent at the solder joint and as i touched it to confirm continuity it fell off....those things do wear out

yes to adjust...bend, play, bend, play, bend, play

This is exactly the problem I was having with my Wicos - the contacts are just worn out, and trying to build a replacement leaf switch with stack spacers still proved unreliable.

So I made these:

Been working like a champ in my MAME cab with a iPAC, still having people test with real boards to make sure they function as expected.

Even if you have an 8-way base (black with circular restrictor), it may have a 4-way actuator. A picture of what you have would help/
