the more junk you have and attempt to maintain the more time you will spend on it, and it is not linear. I think it is exponential. I have been shifting shit around in my house for months trying to figure out the best layout for everything. I have had a solid feeling that "this is it" many times during the past year but here I am again rearranging shit. most of my junk is electronics so it's not as simple as just moving it around. I have to figure out where to put stuff so I can get to it, so I can use it, and so I can connect it.

The arcades are not so bad, just seem to be a fair amount of work to keep up. the 5 tv / 4 cable box / 5 xbox 360 setup is more hassle than one would guess, but manageable. the 2nd 5 tv / 5 xbox 360 setup is in progress. the 10+ console classic gaming setup will be interesting when I get around to it.

the real problem though is my little recording studio. I finally got a suitable equipment rack and that was a great Idea. being able to stack a lot of junk all together and keep most of the cords and whatnot in there makes things a lot easier. I'm hitting around 25-30 components though and they all have to be hooked up. that is not even counting guitars/mics/all that shit. what is kind of cool about music equipment is it forces you to really think about signal path. some of my chains get pretty complicated, I have to draw a diagram to keep some of it straight. Solving that helps me solve other problems. when there is a failure it requires you to think about all the possibilities and it is pretty fulfilling to be able to do this quickly, and frustrating when it takes a long time but that work usually pays off.

then there is the problem of power. I don't even want to try to calculate what all the components in my recording studio consume but I'm guessing if I turn on all this shit it will flip the one breaker I have access to in this room.

I don't know where I'm going with this. Sometimes I envy people who just have a guitar a tv and a ps3 or something and that's it. I have literally hundreds of components to deal with (if you count cords probably 1000+ individual things I have to deal with to get all the crap hooked up that I want to get hooked up), but I guess that's part of the fun, especially when it all comes together how you planned. but it is a ton of work.
