I don't understand how to play Mr. Do! . Can someone explain how to play it ? All the details , diamonds , monsters coming from the top of the screen when I eat cake......

easy. Kill as many bad guys as possible. Dug just under the apples but not all the way and wait for bad guys to come... dig a straight tunnel under an apple but leave one block, can cruise by and let appple drop on bad guys below... etc etc

get as many extras as possible. You will see the word"extra" full up one letter at a time. Once its full, you get another life iirc.

Haha...I have to admit, I've been more than a little confused by some aspects of this game too. Same for mr. Do's castle and do run run...neither are completely intuitive. Mr. Do wild ride on the other hand, is pretty straightforward.

one of my favorite games...kill all the freaks that are chasing you or eat all the cherries, either way will complete the level...there are a two ways to kill all the freaks, push an apple on top of them or shoot them...after all of the freaks are out roaming around trying to get you, the center of the screen where the freaks were coming from turns into some type of dessert...if you go eat that, then the freaks freeze where they are (you can still shoot them or drop apples on them), but some other freaks come after you...one of them has a letter on it, if you kill all the guys with letters to complete the word (i think the word is bonus) then you get a free guy...not sure how to make the diamond show up with the pretty, twinkly music, but if you see it, go get it as quickly as you can...it ends that level and you get a free game...that's about all i can remember of the top of my head

The word to spell is "EXTRA" for the free man. I like to ignore the cherries and kill the bad dudes. The more you can crush with a single rock, the greater the score. I like to get all but one or two and then go for the prize to get the letter. Make sure to get the prize when a letter you need is highlighted, it changes at random, unless the letter happens to be roaming the playfield, I try to shoot them whenever they venture out before getting the prize (that way getting 2, sometimes 3 letters per board). The prizes get extremely valuable after about level 7, so they shouldn't be ignored.

The diamond is completely random, and it's not worth losing a life chasing, the only benefit is 8000 points (unless you're actually paying a quarter to play the game).

Use your "bouncing frisbee" sparingly, it sometimes takes a long time to return to you, you're pretty vulnerable without it. After you eat the prize, though, it returns to you pretty much immediately until normal play returns (you shoot the letter), so if you want to kill the bad dudes that escort the letter for some extra points, that's ok. Just remember that once the letter is killed, the frozen monsters will return to life right away, so consider your position relative to them when deciding when to kill the letter.

Me and a couple of my friends have been competing on this game for a while now, by our standards (we're not awesome, but we're good for about 270K or so) a good game is one where you average 10K or more per level. Most of my strategy involves pushing an apple out slightly into a vertical tunnel and waiting for the monsters to accumulate there. You can do this until one of them starts changing colors (indicating he's about to start burrowing straight at you) and then get them all. 6 or so on a single drop is awesome. The prizes are very valuable after about level 8 or 9, progressively so thereafter, so it's a good habit to get into of getting them before killing the last dude, even if you're not trying for an extra man.

If you find yourself without your bouncing frisbee and a monster hot on your tail, move in straight lines as much as possible, they will as often as not stop for a rest before coming back at you, giving you a chance. If you turn you lose a little bit of ground versus going in a straight line (doesn't matter if you're "digging" or just running through a tunnel).

Mr Do is awesome!! I never played it back in the day, hated it actually, thought it was a sloppy Dig-Dug ripoff... Discovered it on MAME, definitely one of my top 10 all-time favorites.

I've been playing 6-8 games a day of Mr. Do for the past few weeks and the diamond is weird. Appears to be totally random. I can play twenty games and not see it, and then I"ll see it 3 or 4 games in a row.

Thanks guys for explaining it .

I played a few games tonight and I totally get the game now .

Its WAY more fun !! I love this game . I like the randomness and all the different things you can do . Drop apples on enemies , attack with the ball , collect cherries or attack all the enemies to finish the level . It gets crazy sometimes with alot going on trying to survive .

Also eat all the fruit in complete sets -- 8 at a time, with no pausing while eating the run. This gets you extra points (you will be able to tell based upon the sounds while eating changing if you eat them in a row). Either make a U, or zig-zag without pausing.

I have a couple of these handhelds (not these exact ones; this is an image from handheldmuseum.com).

One of the best arcade-to-handheld translations, ever. It even plays the same high-score-initials-table tune when you get a high score, and includes the random and elusive diamond showing up every now and then.

wow, i never understood this game, either. super write-up on the strategy...gonna check this game out. think it is on the arcadesd? thank you and cheers!

If you want to check out another very cool variant of this game, check out Neo Mr. Do.
Its a remake of the game with updated graphics and music... Its also horizontal since its Neo Geo hardware.
