Exidy combat power supply

I just picked up an exidy combat machine, and the guy said that when he pulled it out of storage, there were melted wires. The wires that go to the big filter cap for the power supply are melted. The cap is but attached to anything, so I'm thinking it rolled over against the metal cage on the power supply and shorted out.
What do you think, would you that melt those wires? Would you just replace the wires and mount the cap and give it a try? would you replace the wires and the cap and give it a try? Is there something else I should check first?

Yes. Damn predictive text. Hard to believe the people who created the Android operating system never heard of exidy.

Hard to say without seeing it, but I'd probably repair any mechanical damage, check for obvious things like shorted diodes, and power it up. Since it's a linear supply, it's easy enough to troubleshoot without the game boards being connected.
