So since I have been simultaneously restoring two original Exidy shooters and am scratch-building a third, I started wondering about these titles. Exidy seemed to try and milk this platform with several different themes and tried to keep commonality between them that all titles would start with a C. Let's see, we have:
-Crossbow (medieval themed)
-Cheyenne (western themed)
-Combat (military themed)
-Catch 22 (also military themed, precursor to Combat)
-Chiller (horror themed)
-Crack shot (target practice themed)
-Clay Pigeon (skeet-shooting themed)
Then they kind of fucked up the whole C-thing with
-Who Dunnit (mystery themed)
-Hit n Miss (?)
-Showdown (?)
Now my question is, why was there no space themed shooter? It seemed like that was one of the most popular themes in all of Arcadedom, yet Exidy didnt see fit to create a space-themed game on this shooting platform. You're telling me they couldn't have re-skinned or reprogrammed one of these games to be space-themed? And the C titles they could've used are many. Cosmic, Cosmos, Comet, etc. Really a missed opportunity in my opinion. Now with all of the FPGA guys and dudes reprogramming ROMs and reskinning graphic images, etc., why was this never done? And could it be? I think that would make one of the most - if not the most amazing Exidy 440 game ever.
