What are your thoughts on a dedicated Mame Exidy Multi-Shooter? From what I understand, the boards are difficult to keep working, and the Multi-Kits are rare and expensive. Sounds like the perfect contender for the lofty ideals of the MAME posse.

I was able to find one post over at BYOAC from years ago, richieknucklez was thinking about building an Exidy 440 multi using MAME.

A friend of mine, whom has a good deal of experience with Mame and light guns, suggested I look at the aimtrac from ultimarc. My thoughts were to mount them in an old Exidy Gun? Any ideas?

the aimtrak should work perfectly in a mounted gun. you can calibrated it and never have to worry about it being used at a different distance or height from the monitor

how far back are the guns from the screens in the exidy games? i think the aimtrak requires at least 2-3 feet

I started a multi-console + MAME gun project quite some time ago.
I hit several setbacks along the way that caused me to park the project for the time being.
I did purchase a pair of Aim Traks and even a pair of GunCon2's.
I had found a tutorial on installing Aim Traks into GunCon's.
I later found a driver called GunCon2Mouse (or something like that).

From all I read the Aim Traks are the way to go. They work flawless in MAME and even work (from what I understand) for most console emulation.

The GunCon2Mouse driver is said to work well, I think it might have just been my pair of GunCons that didnt work so well. Sadly I have not found another pair to test.

Hope perhaps this provides a lil more insight.

here's another option for you......

looks like clay's new ARCADESD MULTIBOARD will include arcade shooters!

here's clays quote-

"The light gun is for a Happ style optical gun (four wire-- power, ground, trigger, sensor).

At this point, the main things we're planning on supporting are the Nintendo (Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley) and Exidy shooters. It will probably be a dedicated menu system just for the gun games (with the light gun). For 'normal' controls we'll support 49-way and trackball for play, but when you have a crosshair on screen to aim it really changes the game play quite a bit, IMHO. (Still kinda fun, but different.)"

Thanks for all the input.

Agreed, perhaps the aimtrac wouldn't have the minimum 2 feet that it needed on a cabinet designed to look like an exidy shooter.

There is also the problem with using a mirror, I know some people have axis issues when trying to make this work in MAME.

Clay's Multiboard would be the trick, and save a lot of headache if it works with the light guns. Would that work with an original Exidy gun, or would it need to be retrofitted with Happ electronics?
