Spent some time this morning giving all the Exidy multi games a good try in MAME. Here's my thoughts:

Catch-22 B (basically a copy of Combat, what is the difference?)
Cheyenne D
Chiller C (sure the torture chamber is great, but overall? "eh" at best)
Clay Pigeon B (sure didn't go overboard on the audio; "pull")
Combat B
Crackshot C
Crossbow D
Hit 'n Miss C
Who Dunit ?

I need to give Who Dunit more of a try. Didn't figure much out there. Any feedback on Who Dunit appreciated, as I have that as a dedicated game (with the pistol) and I think I might be looking at selling that soon.

To be honest, none of the games grabbed me enough to want to keep my Exidy multi. Might be up for sale soon. And before anyone even hints otherwise, this is not a knock on Dave Widel & Mike Doyle (who made the Exidy Multi). They did a fantastic job and I appreciate their efforts.

Are the games on the original Exidy multi the same as the remake Exidy multi? I asked that when the remake came out and neither Dave or Mike (or anyone else) ever answered.

Probably looking at selling my Chiller too. Bummer as I spent a long time trying to find one.

One other thought, those were the ratings playing them in MAME. I played several of the games at Troy's house on a real cabinet and they were MUCH harder without the crosshair that MAME gives you. Enough that they weren't much fun. I think my grades when played on a real game would all be lower.

So, anyone else give them all a good try? What are your grades at them?

crossbow

i barely remember playing combat, and i really used to like playing crossbow. i was looking to buy a crossbow with the multi cause i was looking for a shooting game. gonna try to play one and see for myself. interesting post.

Personally I doubt MAME would likely do these games justice. Part of the challenge of these games is the gun you use to play them. For many games you need to aim and shoot a relatively heavy gun with one hand and hit a button with the other. This makes some games damn hard and nearly unplayable.

Personally I think Cheyenne is actually the best game in the series. Very simply actually but as the number of items attacking you on screen increase it can be challenging to keep up with them and not die quickly. Also there is a bit of strategy to scoring. Which order of screens you choose and when you choose to bank your score is all part of the strategy to get the highest score.

Chiller while a very cool theme simply gets old quick IMO
