Everything wrong with the hobby illuminated in one self-aggrandizing quote

"2011 is the year of the Knucklehead," Richie said. "Watch for our very own TV series aptly titled 'Arcade Culture'. Think American Pickers, meets Pawn Stars, meets American Restoration meets The King Of Kong starring the undeniably charismatic Richie Knucklez as your host, along with tons of cameos and celebrity game rooms."

Has he made this known to the public? I thought it was tight-lipped. I'm pretty sure more than one network has been talking with Richie on this matter.

Doesn't mean it will be picked up by any networks. It would have to focus more on the unique cabs to keep it interesting for the average viewer as restoring a Ms. Pac every week would get old fast.

No different than any other 'reality-documentary-series'. I think some stuff might get 'dropped-off' for restore and resale for the sake of being interesting.

I knew it was a matter of time before someone tried to cash in on this hobby with a reality show. It might be a good thing, but it could also take all the fun out of this....

I thought this was a joke at first, but I'm definitely intrigued.

It will make the demand (and therefore prices) skyrocket in the short term, but there will be a lot of cheap machines after the initial surge

It'll be awesome when they inflate the prices x1000, like on all those shows he quoted, and then the already crazy prices on CL and ebay will be even higher.

Just a guess, but I would think you'd need a much wider audience to see that sort of effect.

I'd agree. I don't see a TV show raising prices for the average game. Might help retailers sell a few more games. Remember a few months ago when everyone thought the Tron movie was going to cause the cabs to skyrocket in price...

If anything it will attract weirdos to the hobby, and people looking to make quick money. Wait a minute, we already have that...

Everybody may complain about the price police, but they are nothing in the face of what people do to (intentional or not) over inflate the worth of these machines.

It's default that a show like this, if it takes off, will attract a larger new breed of lazy ass get-rich-quick individuals. The unknown is how much prices will get jacked on every 50-150 dollar project machine and how long the fad will last.

I don't think a show like this will change prices for the average game.

I don't know how many Trons sold for $2k, but not a single Tron has sold on Ebay recently, and the prices were $1200-$1400 for fully restored machines.

that's because they waited too long. I saw several sell for over $2k when the movie was about to come out and the weeks following

The guys from SuperAuctions said they had a reality show in the works before they closed shop or as they say "are restructuring"
