Used Fastenal once. It went ok. But they aren't accepting games these days. Also, there's a rumor the insurance thing has become (always was?) sketchy with them. And even beyond that Fastenal charges a couple hundred to ship a game. $200 is a lot to add for a $100 game.

But really....I want to *see* the game before I buy it. In person. And if I pick up up myself, that eliminates "the photos didn't show that" problems, disagreements about what's included or missing, shipping damages, bait & switch, etc.

Yes, it is a bargain. That's why people recommend it. But you have to take it to Fastenal and it had to be strapped to a pallet which I provided. Some locations require full crating. Some don't do it at all. I think. Like I said...it's all hearsay.

That one time I used them it was set up by the buyer and it was about 2 (3?) years ago. I have no idea what it costs now. They currently aren't doing arcade shipping business from what I understand.

The only solution is to move to Lebanon, KS.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographic_center_of_the_contiguous_United_States

Then no matter where in the US the game is (excluding Hawaii and Alaska) it will be closer than 2000 miles.

Lebanon, KS to Seattle, WA = ~1750 miles
Lebanon, KS to San Diego, CA = ~1450 miles
Lebanon, KS to Key West, FL = ~1900 miles
Lebanon, KS to Bangor, ME = ~1900 miles

Yeah, about that. If you are going to be that picky, you'd better have a lot of money. These games date to the mid-1970s or earlier in some cases. That's 45 years old. I remember 45, and I was getting more sore back then. That's a lot of years, a lot of moves, and a lot of play.

If you want a perfect game, buy one, but you'll pay for it.

If you want a player's game, buy one, and you'll pay less.

Keep the following in mind:
If you have more than 2 games, bad side art can disappear between 2 games.
If you don't have 2 games, put the bad side against the wall, and another game on the other side.

The moral of the story is simple: If you want good games, don't expect to get them for $100. Pay what is needed. Otherwise, compromise since the games aren't getting any younger.

I don't think your problems would be solved. I haven't been to Lebanon, but I live in Central Kansas and it's the boonies here, try finding a commercial dock where they could drop palleted items off at. Most truck lines here know they got ya, and will charge high for a lift gate delivery.

I understand that and I basically agree with everything you said. In an ideal situation, I'd get a $50 game, clean and WATW, located about a mile away, and delivered into my living room by the seller. But that aint gonna happen! In reality, each of those vectors is tradeoff-able.

I know the limitations on my end and I can work around those if I have the right information up front. Every game has it's own issues and I like to evaluate them individually. Sometimes I will ignore a problem that I see if something else that I hate is not a problem. That's hard to do remotely. If I had more storage available, I could take just any old game and maybe I get to it as a project and maybe not. And that would be fine. But with the limited space, I have to turn a project in a couple of days typically. At least getting it to the point that I can add it to the lineup with a "wounded soldier" tag. I can be flexible on that.

On the shipping side...there are a lot of games that I would buy, but adding $500 to it just to ship puts it out of my budget range. Maybe I have $1600 to spend on a game, all in, and I find a one for $1500. And it's a great deal and I'm excited. Adding the shipping kills it. Blood from a stone. It's a simple cash flow issue. Really frustrating.

If a game is listed at $100, that's what it's worth. I get it. It's a project, or just not a desirable game. But paying $600 for a total project or a dog is not reasonable for anybody. Going cheap (with Fastenal or otherwise) is sometimes an option, but even then...I want to see the game. Maybe the cab is not solid enough to survive freight shipping and I want to baby it back home by myself. Or maybe it's just too much project for me to take on. That's ok. But maybe I want to push the line. Take a chance. If it's close to what I can manage I need to make a finer decision. Because I don't EVER want to buy a game and then have to destroy it just because I can't handle the project for skill or time or space. I'm into preservation and I don't want to be in that position. Or maybe it's a cocktail...then shipping is completely out of the question. I won't ship a cocktail. I'll do it in my pickup (I drove my SD CT from CAX to Detroit, no problem.) But trusting it to a freight company? Just no.

Mainly, I'm just like everybody else. Not quite happy with whatever situation I find myself in, and I want to complain. :D

But the problem was games 2000+ miles away, not game selection within 50 miles. :D

I think his point was....

Driver: Deliver to Kansas City? OK. (Ima get paid!)

Driver: Deliver to Lebanon? Goddamnit. (Drops the game....doesn't even care about this.)
