I was lucky enough to do so this weekend, and man it was awesome.

I had posted about a guy who was interested in a game of mine, but lived 2+ hours away. He sent me an email asking "if he could meet me to check the game out." I had my doubts at first as to whether or not the guy was legit, if he was gonna show up and low ball me, or what was going to happen. I get a knock on my door, and the dude has his gf/wife with him, and I tell him to hang on while I open the garage up. Mind you my collection of arcade games is modest at best, but as soon as the door opened, his jaw dropped. I wasn't aware of it at the time, but he would be purchasing his first arcade game, and he was in awe. "I cant believe you have an arcade in your garage" was the first thing he said. "How long did it take you to get these" was the second. It was cool. I felt like I total nerd cause I was so happy to see the expression on his face as he pressed start and played a few rounds on his new game. He was giddy. He was stoked. It was awesome. As we loaded the game up, he just shook his head and laughed while he looked at the cab in the back of his truck. Im so happy that this game will give him so much pleasure.

Defintley one of the best experiences I have had in this hobby.

Awesome story! What game did he buy?

Mortal Kombat. Def not a "classic" in the eyes of many (and a bunch of people here hate the game) but he was 29, and was telling stories about playing in Jr High, skipping class, using all of his chore money, etc. It was really cool. His gf/wife (not sure what she was) kept mentioning how they have no room in their house for games, so maybe this was a one shot deal.

I think we all started out just wanting one...

:D

I started with one and I think I am up to 22 games with 4 empties and a crap load of boards. :D

heh heh. She was watching him look at his game in the truck then back at all of your games and the gears were turning. That's why she had to throw that out there. "Remember, HONEY, one game. And we don't have room for that!"

He heard nothing. :)

Yep. I told my wife I would get just a few games at the rate of one per year when I got my first game (DK) less than two years ago. I now have 17 games.

wow mkII is gone. Not sure how I am supposed to smoke your ass on that gamenow.

I did have it solved that one day then your wife turned to power off so my name wouldn't end up at the top of your machine. :O)

Yeah I'm guilty of getting a few people hooked. I kinda felt bad...like I had gotten someone started on crack. It is neat to see the excitement of a newbie getting his first game, and showing them the basics.

And it's awesome that he got to see what's going to happen to him, someday.

Damn shame the wife/gf is on her way out, though...

lol. If its a GF he can get a 'replacement' model that is more in tune with his new hobby.
If its a wife, well she'll learn to live with it ;)

I sold a Missile Command CT to someone for his frat house and I'm pretty sure it was his first game because he drove all the way from Purdue.

I have a few times. It is always alot of fun to do that. I sold several to a family with a set of unidentical triplets. That was a truly refreshing experience to see how much those kids liked those games. I hope they still do.

I sold a stratovox to the taitovoxkids that used to frequent KLOV a bit...they moved on I believe.

i still have that stratovox in my awesome new garage sitting right next to our pac man.
the last thing ever to leave my estate will be that stratovox!
ned sold off all of the games he had at your house but we still have the two to keep us busy. and now, possibly one or two more!

as a side note cnlmoore is a great collector to deal with and an upstanding dude.

taitovox kids forever!

Beautiful Story. Really cool when someone else "gets it"

I've had lots of visitors to the house, and I show them my (admittedly small number of) games, and most people just look at me funny, like "why would you keep all this junk around?".

I think I'll break down and cry the first time someone says "... you have a STAR CASTLE?"

till then... :)

Reminds me when I bought my first, yes I was giddy as all get out, the problem was the guy who was selling had it since he was 8 yrs old and got it for his 8th birthday(he was in his early 30's I believe at the time), I wanted to feel bad for him but with all the giddyness all I could mutter to him was that it was going to be restored to it's original glory and be cherished for as long as I am able. :)

Before I moved to Hawaii in 2005, I sold a Dig Dug to a father with his two young kids in tow. They were soooo excited, it was cool to see.
