Ever sell a machine and have your heart broken as the buyer tells you his plans for it? One was showing me where the trackball, arknoid spinner, 6 buttons would go.. *Sigh*

What game did you sell?

Heart broken NO!

Do I wish I did not sell a few games I have had, maybe.....

I usually sell the game cause I'm done with it, if it falls out of the truck down the street, its their business.

I sold the mintiest of mint Commandos a few years back. When the buyer was loading it he told me that he planned on MAME'ing (or MAIMING) it.

That still makes me sad to this day... :(

That's why I like assuring the seller that I'm not doing anything like that, so they can sleep at night.

I'd always like to think any games I've sold or given away are going to a good home. Nobody wants to see a perfectly good classic machine hacked up for a MAME.

This is why I don't sell games (well, cabinets)... :(
I can't say I've sold many myself. I tend to keep most of the stuff I buy even if I buy with the intention to flip. Case in point has to be my Blasteroids. It's not working and I don't know that I'll enjoy it a lot when it's fixed. I did list it here but had a change of heart before any offers were made. It kinda makes me a hoarder.

I suppose if it really bothered you, you could request a potential purchaser not mame / 10-million-in-1-it as part of the selling price.

Sure, they could lie to you... but at least you set the ground rules before the sale was done. And maybe feel a little better if you find out they went ahead and "did it" anyway.

FWIW, I see your point. I'm not into monsterizing unless the game is already gone.

But... once someone buys it, they can toss it off the roof if they want. I wouldn't agree with that, but it's their choice.

This is why i strip all the parts out of the game and sell the cabinet empty. I figure at this point the cabinet gets crushed or becomes a mame and i don't lose sleep either way.

it would honestly depend on what game it was. If it was a classic I would likely give the money back and take the game back. I don't think I could let a classic be knowingly destroyed. Currently I have a very clean Ikari III which I know is not a good game or even a classic to most. Problem is the art is in excellent condition as is the cab as a whole. I've offered it for sale but always ask high dollar in hopes of only someone who really wants that game in that condition buying it. I need the space but find it hard to let it go knowing most people would probably gut it in a second.

kinda, BUT....

Kinda, but they didn't say they were going to tweak it at all..
they were going to play LOL..
bills came I just offed my Neo 29 Last week..
Paid truck registration and insurance..
But yea, shit missed it when it was on my driveway
waiting for his ride to pick him up with the machine.

No, but I have specifically not sold games before to buyers because I knew what they intended to do with them.

When I sell games to collectors of classic machines, they usually tell me up front that they're not gonna MAME or convert it.

If it's a non-collector, I have them tell me their plans for it before I hand over the machine.

So no, never had that problem...

Last games I sold to a guy that was mumbling "gotta drop off the roof...gotta drop off the roof". I didn't think much of it. :D
