Ever play hookey to go to an arcade as a kid?

Never skipped to play games. There was an arcade right across the street from my HS during my freshman year. It was called 'The Hornets Nest' as our school mascot was a hornet. They offered tokens for A's and B's on report cards. They did not last long. It became a Domino's Pizza. We would eat lunch and drive toons of a couple of 7-11's and play Kung-Fu Master and Punch Out! Sometimes eat lunch at 7-11 to get more playtime.

At least there is still such thing as the arcades.
Yep. My Uncle tooks us though so it wasn't considered skipping school because he would check me out for an "appt". He just never said it was at the Tilt in the mall.

Some of the cities have really stepped up now and won't let Arcades within a certain distance of a school open for business before school lets out.

i was never much of a daredevil or chance taker. but i remember kids use to ditch school alot and they would go hang out at the local mall which had an arcade called the gold mine. and i use to never understand, i was like its 10 in the morning on a school day and there are kids hanging out at the mall. doesnt everyone know you are ditching and know exactly where to find you?

Sure did. When I got my driver's license I would drive to captain's practice for soccer. It was optional, but you were supposed to go. I would skip out and go to the Aladdin's Castle arcade and play games like Samurai Showdown. It was fun to get away back then.

The one right across the street had mostly pinball and also have a small area to get fries, pizza puffs, burgers, etc. This is the place that Williams Pinball used to test their pins. That was fun let me tell you. This place got busted alot by the cops.

If anyone from Chicago remembers this drop me a line. Of course I am talking about Lane Tech High School.

:D :D

Unfortunately, arcades as such came into existance after I left high school so there was no point in skipping.

I do remember the one across the street from Lane. I don't remember the name though. I got stuck on stakeout there for a couple of video game tests. Sinistar and Splat! IIRC.

There was also a Catholic school nearby and the girls from the Catholic school would go there to meet boys. I was watching a test machine one day when my landlady's daughter walked in smoking and making out with some guy. She just about sh*t a cow when she finally saw me sitting there. I think she was 14 or 15 at the time. Once she saw me, I stopped over to say hi to her, casually mentioning to the guy (who was at least 19) that he should look up the Illinois laws on statutory rape. He bailed immediately.

About a week later my landlady mentioned that her daughter was really toeing the line for some reason and it was freaking her out. I played innocent and said I didn't know anything about it. About 6 months later, the daughter mentioned that my "intervention" that day worked out. He was a total loser. He got 2 of her girlfiends pregnant (after giving them the clap) and then got busted for drugs and other things and was being sent to Joliet for 10-25.

Now that I think about it, I'm glad there weren't arcades back in my day.....

Yes, well - sort of. I never actually made it to basketball practice through the entire seventh grade :) I don't remember exactly how that played out when I was supposed to have a competitive game. Maybe my parents thought games happened during practice?
