So, I had a chance to get a fully working Crystal Castles for 100.00 yesterday. I went to look at it and it was in nice shape. Artwork was nice and solid cab. It needs a trackball kit and new marquee and the monitor had quite a bit of burn. Earlier in my collecting days, (which wasn't that long ago) I would have jumped on it. This time, I passed it up. I liked CC growing up but I just didn't want to take the time to restore this and I really don't have anymore room left until I move into our new house. I also have a MAME machine that has a nice trackball and can play CC pretty spot on.

So, am I crazy for passing this up? I really like the artwork and Atari cabs, but I found myself offering a lower price, which he didn't take and so I walked...

Any of you have stories about great deals you passed up? Am I going to be kicking myself a year from now?

Yeah a few years ago when Warlords wasn't popular I passed on one for $175. It was like a 6 hour drive though probably why I passed on it. Who knew that everyone was going to go ape shit for them like 3 or 4 years later.

You made an offer lower than $100 for a fully-working CC?

Yep. Like I said, I am about out of room and for some reason, I wasn't motivated to buy it when I saw it. I know some of you might think its crazy but I guess I just threw out a low offer to see and if not, I was ready to not take it home.

If you actually want it in your house, $100 is a great deal. Most people I know wouldn't give $50 for it, as they don't want an arcade game, in general.. CC is eye candy by design, but the game isn't for everyone.

Had a chance to get a Medieval Madness for $3k back when they were ONLY going for $5k. Just didn't have the money at the time :(

I saw that ad 10 minutes after it was posted. Frankly, the only thing I would have been interested in is whether the monitor was nice or not. I passed. Sounds like I am glad I didn't waste my time.

:)

I have an awesome deal waiting down in Colorado Springs that I can't get because I am not capable of driving to pick them up and I have no one that wants to make the run and do all the heavy lifting.

You guys are killing me. I would love a Crystal Castles and $100 is a steal. Anybody heading west anytime soon?!? :D I am only 9 hours due west.....

I passed up a deal only because I didn't know any better. Found a defender on CL for like 300. Drove 2 hours with my brother to meet the guy and look at the machine. To his embarrassment, he turned it on and it wasn't working, kept playing the cycling sound ad infinitum. The cab was in good shape and all the boards were there so I offered him 100 for it. He went to get a hand truck and my brother, who knew less than the little that I did at the time, put the fear on me about not knowing how to fix it etc.

The thing was on the hand truck when I decided to walk, stating that I didn't know if it was worth the time to fix. Of course that night I found the Williams error FAQ... It was gone when I emailed him again...

Yes, that was one thing that helped in my decision to not buy. The monitor had really bad burn in.
