I have a Robocop pinball torn apart in my game room, cleaned and mylar pulled...playfield just needs touchups in a couple spots to look pretty nice.

I pulled it apart months ago now, and I just do not have the motivation to put it back together. Bought a NOS BG and plastics, and otherwise the game works fine and just needs some ramp protectors fashioned at the right ramp entrance that's cracked.

I could put it back together and be playing it, but for some reason I just don't even want to look at the freaking thing lately.
I actually haven't even bothered playing ANY of my games in months...

Totally, slightly different motivation though. I'm waiting on my Space Shuttle repro playfield and plastics...kind of feel like any further effort right now is just wasted on it, because I haven't even begun to break it down and the playfield will be here in a week or two.

I know there's a lot of stuff I COULD be working on, but haven't found the motivation because of this. Also got some issues on my Supersonic pin that I'm pretty sure I can explore and possibly fix but not going anywhere on it either.

Got sucked back into a MMO that I play and it's hard to find the time because my wife's having fun with it, and so am I...we usually play 3-4 months then burn out.

Yeah, then I sold my projects along with 9 perfectly working games and now I only own 2......:D

yep. I actually had a pretty productive week working on games this week, and I planned for a full weekend of game repair this weekend. It is 11am now, and I haven't done anything yet. :(

A few years ago, I did a teardown and rebuild on High Speed. I think it sat for almost 9 months in the condition yours is in, just waiting for me to put it back together. I stripped the marquee off of my Millipede about 2 months ago, and I still can't get myself to try to apply the new one.

yep. i'm about 90% done on a repaint and rebuild of my mario bros. i just need to paint the coin door and put it back in. just really not motivated at all, with it being in the garage right now and my game room full as well... one of these days.

That is why I said no more games this year. I need to get all my other games done first. Right now I am finally restoring a Gyruss cocktail I got over six years ago. It was just I kept getting more games so things kept getting pushed back. This is the one I have had the longest without restoring so it is about time I got around to it.

My other problem too is when a game works it is easy to put off the resto process and just keep playing it. Like my Popeye, nice cab and has never given me a days problem. The coin door was replaced with a metal plate with a credit button and I have all the parts to put together a new one but just haven't done it yet. Also needs t-molding which is easy but just I just keep playing it. It is about #3 in line behind the Gyruss right now.

Definitely... Doubly so in a case like this where you're talking about a pinball machine. There is *so* much stuff on these. I cleaned up my Taxi, installed a new ramp, some other repro plastics and LED's. It took me what amounted to a full work day (8+ hours) to get it all done.

I seldom have that kind of time, but given how much I had pulled it apart, I didn't want to leave it and possibly forget how stuff went. Totally worth it in hindsight, but that was a helluva lot of work.

I have a Pinbot playfield ordered from CPR, and have equal parts anticipation and dread about swapping it.

All the time...
My Galaga has been half restored in the garage for close to two years now :)

My Galaga has been torn apart in my garage for a year now. I lose motivation all the time, lol. I will tell myself that I'm going to get some things done, and make time to do them and then life gets in the way, or sometimes I'm just plain tired. Just remind yourself that this is just a hobby after all...;)

I've got some serious motivation and desire... but I think I've caught the flu or something. :/

Our old Baby Pac-Man had a 2-1/2 year time when it had a newly re-screened playfield just sitting on top of it.

And our Gyruss took 8 years for me to find the motivation to get to replacing the front panel...

Work on things when you feel like it and don't the rest of the time. Like you said, when they are functioning games it's hard to justify taking them apart(unless you're more into this hobby for art collecting).

I have to make a new CP for my MKII, cut the monitor bezel, and figure out a way to mount the shelf monitor.....and I just dun wanna do it :(

My Baby Pac has been sitting for about a year and a half. Most likely the problem is with the communications cable. But I hate making cables, it is SO tedious! I would rather recap something.

The only time I really totally lose motivation to fix something is when I get utterly frustrated with it. If I actually have a plan of approach, simply thinking about it gets me energized. I enjoy the repair process itself and watching a game come to life after it's been dead for so long is the best feeling in the world.

That said, I'm not fond of cosmetic work, so if I'm not particularly infatuated with a given cabinet, it tends to get neglected. My Gunbird is a prime example of this -- for at least half a year now I've been planning to make it a universal cabinet with interchangeable CPs... haven't even begun planning.

Maybe that's my problem...I lose interest when there's no difficulty presented. It's literally just a matter of waxing and re-populating the playfield outside of the touchups and the ramp protectors I need to make, and it's ready to play.

I'll probably go back to it when other things in life don't need doing, it might have more to do with summer and now that it's getting cold and I don't want to go outside as much I'll take more interest in it.

Yeah, my Dig Dug joystick only works in two directions, but whenever I start to work on it I get the urge to go play one of my other games instead... sigh.

Not no motivation but its taking a long time to complete my MAME project (not a classic cabinet, don't worry). Putting in the monitor and computer were a lot easier than I thought and hacking a keyboard encoder is a lot harder than I thought. At least the thing is playable now. I'm not finished yet but well on the way. I started this with the idea of seeing if I could do one and it looks like I will be able to. One hell of a project, though.
