I bought Alpine Ski today. I got it from a guy that got it from a guy that got it from me years ago. I think it got passed around because it's not exactly most peoples' favorite Taito. Also, there's something up with the board where you can never die (is this is a setting???) and the cabinet isn't that great. It's not really swollen all over, but it has a LOT of bumps and scars that are swollen and the front panel is a bit lumpy.

My plan is to disassemble it, copy it and build a couple of Taito cabinets for Qix and ZK, then restore the Alpine Ski. After seeing it again, I think to make it NICE it would need a new front and sides. Not sure if Alpine Ski is worth the effort, stencils, and material. I'm thinking 3/4" MDF for most of the Taito cabinet panels. Won't take as much prep for paint, will be dead flat, close to OEM material, and should weigh a ton.

I once bought an unfinished scratch built mame frankencab (furniture grade plywood with a brand new Wells Gardner D9200 in it). I can't remember what I paid for it but it was really cheap for something with a brand new $650 monitor in it (thinking $200).

Later sold it without the monitor in it for $500. About 2 years later I bought it from someone else for $200ish again, still no monitor in it but now it had a pretty fancy control panel with a custom overlay and marquee on it.

I put the monitor back in it, did a few control upgrades and I still own it today. It balanced out to being about free, which is pretty good for a machine that was built with about $1200 worth of brand new parts (the only thing used on it is the coin door).

Last year i ended up buying back from someone here locally a Sega New Astro City cabinet. When i showed up i knew it was one of the 3 i bought from the turd in the debacle of a group buy back in 2009 as i could easily identify the forklift marks from the shipping damage and the poor attempt at repair.

I bought it back at a real good price and the 29" monitor looks great! Just now need a control panel for it.

i sold my first machine...DE star wars only less than a year ago...but i already miss it and am thinking of how to get one again. I missed it the second it walked out the door. Granted it isnt one i have bought back...but wish i could have it again!

Never bought, but seen games I sold back up on CL months/years later. I tried very hard not to buy back a DK Jr. I had restored.

I had to sell my Robotron a few yrs ago bc I needed cash. Hated myself for it. A couple years later the owner, a KLOVer, allowed me to trade them and get my exact Robo back. I was lucky....

I sold a Galaga a few years back to a guy around town.
An ad popped up last Summer or the year before offering it for cheap. I contacted him and instead of buying it, I tweaked his power supply a bit and he kept the game.

It now boots to a blank screen, but he saved my number and offered it up to me first.

I thought that was pretty neat.
