Boston pinball has average price on EK for $960. Is it really worth close to that? I ask cuz I have my valley dart board on CL right now and I said $500 or trade for a pin. A guy texted me and offered me his EK pin non working straight up saying it needs an MPU. He offered to replace the MPU to prove that's all that is wrong with it if I throw in $100. He says the backglass and playfield are good although I haven't seen them in person yet. I am not super enthused by the dirtbiking theme, but I figure if I don't like it I will just outright sell it off or trade it for something else around that age like a Strikes and Spares or towards a Black Hole. What do my fellow pinheads think of this trade offer?

I sold a nice, fully working, EK pin in Chicago a few years ago (3? 4?) for $1,500. I think you're pretty safe committing $600 dollars to one. If you don't like it, there's plenty of room there to get your money back plus some.

Sounds like a good deal, just make sure playfield and backglass are in good shape with no major wear spots or backglass flaking. I would probably pay the extra $100 personally to make sure nothing else is an issue, especially displays, some machines require you to buy all 4-5 displays or some handy soldering you can replace one or 2 at a time. Some machines have 3 different types of displays so you can swap out player 1 with #2 then only player 3 with #4 and then the match/credits display separately.

Just be mindful of potential costs to get in back in a pristine working order. You can easily spend another $50-$150 just in shopping a machine (depends on what you need or want to replace) Also any broken plastics? Some machines can run another $150 + just for new plastics.

Just for laughs and comparison, I've now spent about 250$ so far on my Space Shuttle. I purchased it for 350$.

Lots of flippant stuff (no pun intended) though, like enough LEDs to fully bug out the playfield, and alternate colored star posts to play around with the color schemes. :)

Yeap I've recently spent over $100 on pinballlife.com for LED's and other stuff, rubbers, regular bulbs, new ballz (btw I wouldnt pay an additional $.50 for the super shiny ones, couldnt really tell that much of difference) shooter springs (wow big difference, highly recommend changing plunger springs) and a lot of rubbers - 125 piece mixed bag (pretty close to completely finishing 2 machines with tons left over - would recommend picking up extra flipper rubbers if ordering that kit especially if you want to do 2+ machines). this was just some of the basics with a few other not so needed things. no new star posts, no acorn nuts, which I'm seriously starting to consider the color ones to match the plastics. you can seriously go on, and on, and on, with stuff. but when all is said and done, you know you've probably done it right by spending just a little more on improvements on these machines. highly recommend taking tons of pics too throughout the process, you will appreciate the hard work when your done!

Well I am going to give the guy a call today and see if I can set it up to go check out the pin tomorrow night as my son has a football scrimage right in the area. Hopefully the playfield and backglass don't look too bad, and hoping the game boots up enough to show me if the displays work or not. If it all checks out good I am going to tell the guy to replace the MPU and I will throw him a hundred with the dartboard and complete the trade. I won't be too heartbroken if it doesn't work out as I really do like the dartboard, but I was truly trying to sell it to start saving up to buy a Transformers pin

Well the guy decided today that he just wanted cash for the pinball. I tried calling him last night to go check it out and got his voice mail, never even called me back. Took me texting him again today to find out he didn't want to trade anymore. Not a big deal, I just get pissed when people are flaky like that. Plus I was starting to get excited about getting a third pin.
