I am going to look at a Bram Stoker's Dracula pin to purchase in the next week or so.

Any advice to evaluate it thoroughly?

Thanks,

RussM

Make sure MIST works... and the drop target at the top of the playfield... it takes a beating... Fun game.

You can test MIST from the self-test menu....

OK, that's good advice about the drop targets.

If I access the Mist Multiball from the test menu (I have a Bally Williams WPC game already - WhoDunnit), does the machine load it's own ball in the right place automatically, and then it runs left/right across the playfield using the magnet underneath that runs along a shaft powered by a motor, is that correct?

How about the repro "proto" sling plastics? Are they still around?

I also have heard that cabinet fade is common, esp the red part of the art, and that planking is a common fault on the playfield.

Thanks,

RussM

Dug this up too:

Thanks for the message. For BSD you want to really make sure that cabinet isn't faded. That red logo lettering tends to get orange pretty regularly. If you find one that is faded and it doesn't bother you then you can get the seller lower on price.

As far as the playfield goes, make sure there's not too much wear by the rat hole (right side) or the mystery hole (top left). Also make sure that all of the plastic parts for show are there (asylum, moutains, etc.) The game was mylared by Williams so check for dirt accumulation by the mylar spots. Bumpers at the top were translucent red on the original; I've seen swap outs with trans blue. Not a big deal, but I'm a guy who likes stuff pretty stock.

Also check the launch button. Should say 'Launch Ball'. If it says something else it's probably a reimport. Not that that's a bad thing, but if it is a reimport you want to make sure the power supply has been converted properly to 110 instead of 220.

MOST important thing...verify that the MIst Ball function works. There's a opto string of magnets underneath the playfied that controls the Mist Ball feature. It should work both right to left, and left to right.

Let me know if you have any other questions. It's a great game!

make sure someone didn't practice flame polishing on the ramps.

Bingo - good advice.

I've seen flame polishing of pinball ramps demonstrated in a video. Looks like if one is very careful to clean the ramps extremely thoroughly and then keep the flame moving smoothly, with some practice it's a fairly easy process.

Definitely something requiring practice on broken or otherwise unusable ramps first though.
