I had a small eureka moment yesterday. For years, I always thought Mr. Do was pronounced Mr. "Dew," like he had a lot to do. So last night I asked my 7-year-old son if he wanted to play some Mr. "Dew," and he informed me it's pronounced Mr. "Doe"...

"You know, Dad, like the Do, re, mi sound it makes when you eat the cherries."

Mind=Blown.

Anyone else have a moment of sudden enlightenment on pronunciation, gameplay, etc?

Taito is actually pronounced "Tie - Toe".

That threat is still valid. I have a feeling it IS actually pronounced Tie-Toe, but Tay-to sounds better. I was told by my Japanese girlfriend that it is actually pronounced Tah-EE-Toe. Ninja Gaiden is another one I hear pronounced 10 different ways. I assume it is also GUY-DEN, not Gay-Den.

for me it was the brand "romstar". i always had it in my mind to pronounce it "roomstar" until i heard someone say it out loud. im glad i never had to call it out, lol!

i def would have needed to offer a little conway twitty as a distraction for that possible awkard moment

I've called in Dew, and never heard otherwise.

The one I was screwing up was Taito. For some reason I thought it was "Ta Tee Oh", but that was probably from my dyslexia thinking it was spelled Tatio

Growing up, I thought Galaxian was pronounced "Gal-lux-IAN"... like most of the word "Galaxy" with an "IAN" (the guy's name) tacked onto the end.

It wasn't until I saw the TV commercial for the Coleco Galaxian tabletop game that I learned it was actually... "GUH-LAX-IAN"

If that is correct, then the Starcade announcer had it really wrong for the whole run of the show. I picked up my pronunciation from watching him as a kid, whether it was right or wrong. There was no one else to school me but the TV set, go figure.

No matter what the actual pronunciation, from now on it will always be Mr. DOE to me. Every time my son eats those cherries he calls out do re mi fa sol la ti DO!

The Japanese call Taito "Tai-To" just load up any recent Taito game. Mr Doe makes sense completely, (especially if you get 8 cherries in a row [each making a note of the scale] you get a bonus) but I always called it Mr Dew.

I always loved Mr. Do! BITD and I recently discovered the hidden depth to the game, spelling EXTRA, turning the blue monsters to apples and getting chain bonuses.

The funny thing is what made me realize that was my gripe with all Bubble Bobble fans, I never understood the appeal of that game, until I posted a thread about it and you guys told me about all the depth to it!

You would almost think that the same designer made Mr. Do! and Bubble Bobble, but it they were different. Kazutoshi Ueda designed Mr. Do! and Lady Bug. He also supervised Bomb Jack, a game I need to check out now.

The question is:

Mr. Do! > Dig Dug?
