How long do you wait until you move a sale to the next person? I am super easy going when it comes to buying and selling but if the potential buyer does not respond when do you move to the next person? Thanx in advance.

I haven't sold anything in this forum but in other ones I frequent I usually give a prospective buyer 2 warnings after initially agreeing on a price. Sometimes just one heads up if there's a lot of interest in the item. I've dealt with way too many tire kickers and flakes to hold onto something indefinitely.

IMO it's all about relationship

if some of the folks i know here to be legit told me they wanted something definitively, but needed to wait a month to move on the transaction, then i'd just play it cool and be patient

if there's no relationship and no realistic level of expectation (this is banking also on the fact that you were straight-up with the person regarding a sensible timetable when the deal was discussed), then i'd give it a week and move on

Go to their User CP, and check to see the last time they logged in. If you sent a PM, and they logged in, then it's pretty likely they saw the message. But sometimes people don't log in for a bit, and if they don't have email forwarding of PM's turned on, then they may not have seen your PM's.

I give people two PMs after that, and in the second one say, "If I don't hear back in 24 hours, I will assume you don't want it, and will pass it to the next person", if there are other people in line.

I have had cases where life intervenes, and people don't log in for a bit. I'll be a little more lenient in this case, but not by much. If someone really wants an item you have, they'll communicate and pay you.

It all depends on communication and expectations, if they have logged on lately and have ignored you, I would move on.

Whenever I sell something here I price it to move so I want the money right away. If you want it pay, if not let me know. I don't mind holding something for several days if the buyer needs me to, but at least let me know what's up.

Recently I posted something for sale and someone responded right away. I sent them my payment info and waited for a response. I waited for over an hour, all the while the person was still logged on the site. No response. Someone else responded after that, and I again sent my payment info, and they paid right away. I pm'ed the first person to let them know that it was sold, and then he pm'ed me back saying something like "you sold it out from under me, I see how it is..."

an hour? geez dude, did you have a drug dealer in the 11th hour you had to square up with???? that seems a bit aggressive.

the little light next to someone's name does not necessarily mean that they're online and active on KLOV. all that indicates is that your browser is receiving notification from the web server that as best as it can tell, the user is active. if someone's at home on KLOV, minimizes the window, and their kid opens a new tab and plays games for 3 hours straight ... depending upon the browser, browser activity, etc it may show as online when they're not actually actively browsing KLOV

at the end o' the day, it's your items and you can sell however and to whomever you want, but everyone (i.e., a lot of good KLOVers) is not that constantly active on KLOV

I was thinking 48hrs.
(but ideally, in that time, try a few PMs to remind the buyer of his commitment)

I think if someone sends an offer and you respond agreeing to sell , you should give 24 hrs to respond . Sometimes I check in before work ( like now ) but can't get back to it for 10 hours until I'm off . But if an offer is made you can bet the buyer is gonna check back within a day to see if it is accepted . My 2 cents .

I tell them how soon I need payment. Usually within a few hours. If they don't pay I move on to the next in line.

This is the modern age, everyone gets email notifications instantly, and if you don't the next guy in line surely does.

Get with the times and pay promptly and you can have one of my excellent products at a reasonable price :D

All of this.

Wow, some ruthless sellers here.

I don't forward PMs to my email. (I didn't even know you could until this thread... but still not turning it on.)

If sellers want payment within hours, are they shipping within hours too?

I based my communication on last login. If they haven't logged in, more time, like a couple of days. If it is a holiday or weekend, you may need to add an extra day. Past 3-4days, than the buyer can't be that interested in the item. Unless the buyer indicates a delay or message blackout period (vacation or whatever), than maybe more time.

I check KLOV mostly only on weekdays. I may check Friday morning and than not again until Monday morning. I guess some sellers here might not like me. :(

I dabble a little in Real Estate on the side, and in real estate, we have what's called a "kick out clause". Even if you have a signed contract, if there are "contingencies" (e.g. have to sell your house first, need to obtain financing, etc.), the seller can initiate a termination clock on the contract if they get another offer (without contingencies).

Why do I mention this...because this is how I handle my KLOV deals as well. As long as I don't have another offer, I'll let the buyer take as long as they need (but keep the item listed). As soon as I get another acceptable offer, I'll let the second know I have another interested party, but I'll will give them 48 hours to solidify the deal (payment, or in the case of known party, commitment to pay). I'll notify the first offer of the same...I have another offer, so I need to "settle" our deal in the next 48 hours, or I'll move to the second offer. That way everyone knows what's going on.

As with everything else, it's more about good communication than hard rules or ethics.
