Escalera vs. Pincrawler advice needed

Out with the old, in with the new.

I was nervous about moving this down the steps so I taped the wood. The belts on the Escalera rubbed on the corner. These are marks going down and then up.

The marks were superficial though. I think for future moves, a stronger taped corner would fix it. Although, maybe i should just replace the belts as I have no idea how old they are.

All in all, the Escalera is amazing and glad I got one. With a little preparation, I can easily move games up and down myself.

Oh, and one other thing I learned, if you don't have the little lifters in the right orientation and you tilt the dolly, you WILL make contact with your flooring with a sharp metal bracket. Fortunately I learned this when moving the dolly in my garage and not inside. I feel like they should have a plastic guard for that.

A friend of mine put gashes in my hardwood floor by failing to fully rotate the mechanism.🤦.

There's a thread on pinside with people who bought all these plus some from China and Amazon. Good and bad features with all of them. IMO the ones with the very long tracks that lay over multiple steps are the best design. (Edit: for most situations)

The Escalera has some quirks like needing to be careful about the orientation of the lifters but the fact it's lifting feet don't put pressure on the corner of the step (they lift 1-2" back from the edge) and it doesn't slip on a smooth wood surface makes it the only option for me. I have also seen those track units leave marks on carpet. Although, the belt guides on the Escalera may do the same even if they apply a lot less pressure.
