Its been years since Ive had to use my PB10 programmer, but after brushing up on the system a bit it all came back to me :)

I fixed a few Tron roms and now I want to fix the 136031.102 on my ESB board that is throwing an error so I pulled the rom, erased it, and I have tried to program it 5 times (erasing between each time). It seems to program the first bit then it errors.

Could my issue be that I need a new 27128a chip? Im using the Mame romset for the bin, but I dont think thats the issue?

Any help would be appreciated
Thanks!

Yeah. Bad ROM. It happens. With some flakey or old ROMs, I've had luck programming them full of all zeroes, then erasing them again. The PB10 allows you to "patch", even if the EPROM is not blank. So, you can keep programming until it thinks it's programmed completely full of zeroes.

But - it's probably not worth the effort for a 27128, one of the most common EPROM chips...

I trust you're using the proper device type, correct? (i.e., if it's an Intel chip, you selected the Intel 27128A from the menu). Also, the chip is getting erased completely, right? You did the full blank check from the programmer's menu? I've had some chips where a few chunks wouldn't erase due to a scratch or a bubble in the quartz window. Some large chips (Hitachi?) the die is so big you have to erase it at angles for the light to get in to the edges.

Try another EPROM. You should have one, 27128's are dirt common. I probably have 20 pounds of the damn things. They're one of those thing that breed when you're not looking. Just like PC power cords.
