I dug out my Battlezone board and was going to go through the Eproms/Proms just to be sure everything was cool with them. I usually start at the bottom and work my way up so the first one Was E1. I think this is a Prom. It's an AMI8050 and my programmer doesn't seem to have an AMI8050. Any 8050's for that matter. Curious if I could just swap this out for a Standard AM2716 as I can't get any good verification on the 8050? I've heard that Eproms are slower than Proms. Would Battlezone actually take a performance hit?

8050 looks like a date code ( 50th week of 1980 )

All eproms use this convention so pretty much all of them made in the 80's
will have a 4-digit number starting with an "8".

According to my files, E1 "should" be just a standard 2716 eprom.

If you have masked roms on the PCB (no windows), it might be a 2316 or 9316.

Good luck.

Yea here I was expecting to check out some 2716's and here's what I have:
N1 (windowed decal) 8046
L/M1 (windowed decal) 8046
K1 8049
J1 8049
H1 5080
E1 8050
A3 8049
B/C3 (windowed decal)8046

Most are all proms it looks like and during verification I have it set to read and write as part of it's verification process, and it bumps into a problem with that. The checksum on the first N1 didn't match up with the version 1 roms I have on file. I saw where there was a version 2 of battlezone floating around out there so I was going to check that next. But I can't write to these anyhow. Just not sure if I should just go ahead and replace them all with 2716's (if I could) or use them and find out later if there's a problem. I don't like it when the checksums don't match up. And the Rom files I'm comparing the checksums to state that they are 2716 in size.
And how can you tell if they are 2316's or 9316's or 2716's if they are printed to be 8050, 8049 and 8046? Just experience?
