So Im try to phoenix my Marvel Vs Capcom board and Im using the GQ-4x True USB Universal Programmer but it is having trouble with the M5M27C402 EPROM. Was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this. I've had them in the eraser for quite some time but when it reads it doesn't come up as blank. Also when I try the blank check it fails.

also says something about needing a 16 bit eprom adapter. Is there something else I need for the GQ-4X? Thought that one was supposed to do it all since it can do 40 pin

make sure the sticker has been fully removed from top of the eprom and make sure the window is clean before you put them in the eraser. Luis

Yeah Ive tried erasing it a few times now. I think it is but the eprom programmer doesn't seem to like it.

How long are you erasing for? And does it do this with other EPROMs of the same type?

I would guess from your description that it's not actually erasing completely if the programmer is reading a mixture of ones and zeroes (esp. if it has any correlation to the previous contents).

20 mins on the erasing. All I get are bebe and such when it reads. It says something about needing a 16 bit adapter. It reads and does the exact same on all 3 chips.

You need the 16-bit adapter to read and program it properly. Once you get the adapter you can check if they are blank and then go from there.

Yeah it requires the adapter. Im pretty sure the only reason the programmer has a 40 pin zif is because its needed for the adapters. It wont do the big chips without the proper adapter. If your not going to use it much it might be more cost effective to just have steph burn what you need. www.hobbyroms.com
