Anyone have a recomendation for a good Eprom Programmer???

Williem?
Pocket Programmer?

Just looking for a good general programmer that is somewhat versatile..

It all depends on what you want to program and what your budget is.

TMS2716? Something odd and ancient. Very ancient.

1702? Something even odder and more ancient. Extremely ancient. 48v programming pulses on the data lines, anyone? EEEK. Odd duck from before the industry settled on using a single pin for the programming voltage.

2532? I'd stay away from Willem and cheap-o Chinese programmers.

16-bit? Read the device list before buying cheap-o Chinese programmers. Willem programmers require adapters.

PROMs? You're going to buy something old (Software may only be supported under DOS or may require an old ISA bus system) or spend some $$$ to get good support for them.

PAL/PEEL? Same thing as PROMs. Most cheap-o programmers will do GAL since they are flash based but probably not PEEL or PALCE which I believe are as well. Older PALs are like PROMs and are fuse link programmable. This requires a strong enough programming pulse on multiple pins to blow the fuse.

I've got a cheap little Willem and it works for most of what I need it to do... I have some troubles with 2532's... but, after a few tweaks in the software they eventually program for me.

But, whether it works or not is beside the point, if you have the money to get something better, I'd do it. There are some problems with Willems (voltage issues) that are a PITA to work around sometimes. But, I only had 40 bucks to spare, and wanted to convert my TwoTigers back to Tron at the time. So... it worked for that, but still... don't get a Willem if you can help it.
