I have an Afterburner that is having pretty bad graphics issues. I recently purchased a GQ-4x4 programmer and thought I would give it a try. Please bear with me, this is really my first attempt.

As I progressed through reading my chips, I have found one that just doesn't come up right and I am hoping I may have found my culprit. Problem is, its the only chip of its type, and I am unsure if I have the correct chip number input. I am trying to read EPR-11110 (see pic) and have loaded in both the 27c1000 and the M27c1000 (as the rest of the chips needed the M designation), and neither comes up as a valid image. There is no option for a D27c1000. I also need to verify the proper chip type to burn the proper ROM info.

That chip is pin equivalent to a 27C301. Select that as the device type and wire it to the socket like this picture.

I did as the picture showed and jumpered pin 24 on the chip to pin 2 on the programmer and reset for 27c301. Re-read and dumped, still not coming up as a valid image. Do I keep it in the same configuration for writing (assuming so, but checking)? Do I deduce the image is really bad on this chip?

You've already answered your own question. It's bad.

Get another 27c1000 compatible eprom, burn it up, and test the board with it. If it fixes your issue, then you've answered your question (again).

Get a 27C301 or 27C100. If you buy a 27C1000 you're taking a gamble on it being JEDEC or non-JEDEC pinout. There were no good standards for the early numbering and the pinouts for 27C1000 and 27C1001 can be different per manufacturer.

27C010 is not what you need. It's JEDEC pinout and you need the non-JEDEC type.
