Whenever I pull a rom from a board and try to verify it comes up with a fail. But if I read the rom, save that file and upload to romident, it still shows me the correct rom. So I have a few questions.

1) Can a rom still be bad even if romident can determine the correct rom
2) I'm using a GX3Q with usb for power. Should I be plugging it into an outlet to ensure the correct power to read and write roms?
3) Even setting up the programmer with the correct chip number (and trying multiple variants) is it not verifying because it's a bad chip?

I don't have MAME to verify against as it's a company computer, hence why I'm using romident.

HELP!

which specific eproms are you having trouble with?

This may be a dumb question, but are you loading the file to be used to verify before you click the verify button?

Right now I'm looking at an Alien Syndrome 16A board. It comes up as complete garbage onscreen when I turn it on. It may be suicided and have ordered the 68000 to desuicde (if I can find the unprotected roms for the 16a). But I wanted to check the eproms first to see if everything is good there. And from what I'm hearing, I'm using the verify function completely wrong on the burner. It's meant to check against what I have in the buffer to ensure they are the same and not to verify the chip I have placed in the burner.

So if I read the chip and dump the file in romident and the same thing comes up, the chip is good then right?!

Does anyone now which roms files I use to desuicide a 16A board?

I would suggest to search for Alien Syndrome on this site:

http://www.progettoemma.net

Select the proper version (there is only one 16A version, aliensynjo) and compare the ROMs vs. the unencrypted set (aliensyn). You can see which ROMs are included in each version in the Tech Info part of the page.

That may be a good starting point. You can also get in touch with user "Pas" in this page, he seems to have unencrypted EPROMs but the link to the file is dead.

Thanks! Well lets see what happens! Just have to wait for the 68000 to come in as well and will update this thread if I get it fixed and which roms for future researchers as I can't find much out there for this. If I get it working, it'll probably be going up for sale here as well as this was part of a lot I picked up and I'm not super interested in it.

This is what my board looks like. This isn't my board but a pic I found on the net. This isn't a 16a is it?? Is this pre-sega 16? Which if I'm reading correctly, doesn't suicide. Which means there's something else wrong with the board.

That's true. The chips I have verify as 16a roms. Just gonna put this away until the cpu comes in. I have about 25 other boards I can work on while I wait!

you did order the right speed 68000. I ordered the wrong speed one the first time it should have been a p 12 not a p 5. 12 mhz chip

you should be good with the 10 my problem was I bought a 5 first and then had to upgrade it with what a friend had in stock

Don't feel too bad about that, I have done this also. Z80 CPU got Z80 PIO as well as wrong speed 68k CPU.
