Epic Pinside thread

CIVIL ISSUE. Police won't do anything about it and likely won't be bothered with an informational report because it's a he said/she said situation. And yes, info reports get case numbers and then likely tarnish anyone's name mentioned in them because they'll be recorded in records forever.

Did you read what you wrote? Because it basically makes your point... Then makes mine...

Should have done better about making them two separate thoughts.

In general that's what info reports do. But the police likely wouldn't even want to associate their names with this mess.

a lot of pin guys seem to take their hobby way too seriously ... way too fuckin' uptight. I set up a Pinside account earlier this year, and have maybe posted ... once?

was at a charity event a couple years ago with a bunch of pinheads in a small tournament. good cause, great games, hosted by a local collector in their home, family-kinda event, etc ...

these guys are shouting, slapping machines (all owned by a generous local collector/host), swearin' up a storm, etc when the ball drains ... like, chill the fuck out ... we're supposed to be having fun and supporting a good cause

immediately turned me off to the pin community. KLOV may not be perfect, but it's a great resource with great folks, and everyone local (to me) I've met that's active here is super helpful and chill

oh, and they don't even know how to meme. pathetic.

No joke. The local arcade group and the pinball group here are like night and day.

I used to have interest in going to pinball tournaments and getting to know people, but it's just like the way your described it, so I no longer want to do so. Plus, with pinball being a higher priced hobby, there comes a different vibe to it, and it's not a good one. Don't care for it. I do plan to add a few more pins this coming year, so how I feel about the hobby in general has no affect on that.

The local AZ arcade group, on the other hand, is the tops. Some of us own pinball machines too. The only difference is we're more laid back and when we play against each other, we don't lose our shit. I have more fun drinking a few beers and playing games/pinball with friends than I did playing in active competition.

I understand that.

Fuck what the police want. Those bitch ass's have a job to do.

They lie and say its not their job. However it is.

Agreed. Pinball guys are largely a different breed, and even though I've got more pins than vids at the moment, I've never felt like I've fit in with the pinball crowd. It's been years since I've entered a pinball tournament or gone to a pin-specific event. It just doesn't interest me.

Maybe it's because I didn't grow up with much money, but there's a level of uppity douchiness that seems to permeate the pinball scene that has always made me feel like an outsider. I just want to hang out, drink beer, play some games, and laugh my ass off with folks who don't take themselves so seriously.

I'll still never get over the guy I met maybe 10 years ago; was a good friend of mine's boss and I got invited to a Christmas party at his house. Was a super serious pin collector; met him right around the time I was just getting into the hobby. Big, gorgeous house with a big downstairs arcade full of pinball machines. Now you'd think that he'd open that up to his guests to play in? Nope. In fact, not even his children were allowed in there. Or his wife. Ever. Just him. No one was allowed to touch the machines.

He shows this room off to everyone during a tour of the house and then quickly locks it after everyone gets a look. One of the party goers had the "nerve" to ask him if they could play a few games. The guy responded by looking like someone had asked him if they could take a shit in his living room. What a dick. Never understood why someone would not want to share this hobby.

he keeps that same attitude, he'll end up REALLY happy because all of his friends and family will just leave him, and it'll just be him and his stupid pins

what a sad, meaningless way to life
