So here is my story, I've been wanting a House of the Dead 2 for a while now, but can't find one locally in my price range.
So I purchased the Wii version which limits you to 9 credits (which gets me to giant that clubs you while chasing you thru a maze)
I still had the urge to buy the arcade version since the Wii version doesn't feel the same, mainly the guns since I like to shoot with both guns which is really hard with the wiimote and the cheap gun addons.

I decided to try House of the Dead 2 in an emulator.... and after beating it lost almost all my urges to buy one, the endgame really falls short and replay value isn't really that great.

Now I almost don't want to ruin my enjoyment of finding one "in the wild" and putting a credit in to see how far I can get.

So I'm wondering if anyone has games that they were looking for (based on nostalgia or word of mouth) that once they played on an emulator, they no longer wanted?

Have one. It gets played almost daily. The multiple pathways and hidden routes do add to the challenge, and trying to not continue.

Usually it's the opposite for me, playing the emulated version makes me want to play it on actual hardware that much more. I'll admit rarely though do I play a game just to beat it. Arcade games weren't exactly brilliant with their endings.

I'd probably still buy one if the price was right, and it wasn't a haul to get, but I no longer am looking to spend big bucks just to have it.

You have to admit the first part of the game has a much better pace and such then the end where it just feels like they are out to steal your precious quarters!

Emulation has changed what I look for in a game. Both emulation and having a credit button handy, really. I've actually gotten into more challenging games because I'm not spending $10 to learn it. On the other hand, games I used to love like Die Hard Arcade just don't have much appeal when you have all the credits and time in the world to play through. I don't regret emulating, but I really do appreciate being able to put coins in a game now and have it mean something.

I find myself drawn twords more unique setups, sitdown tank style games (like my cybersled)

Although having tried to play the vector Star Wars games in Mame and then playing them on a real cab... made me really want the real thing (I'd never drop the cash needed to get one though)
