Different joysticks have different footprints underneath. A lot of the japanese ones are pretty shallow on the bottom half.

Are you planning on keeping it as a Galaxian? If so, arcadeshop has the underlay artwork for the top: http://www.arcadeshop.com/parts.htm#Graphics

And if indeed you are keeping it as a Galaxian then no need to put in joysticks, the CP should work just fine as is. If you wanted to put in joysticks as a replacement you may have problems. Not sure if anyone here has done that.

i was hoping to make it a 60n1 as its empty and cheaper to buy the parts and easier and more games. anyone know a joystick that will fit or a ms pac cp with wood sides adaption?

i got it gutted see pics its just a wood cab. if someone wants to trade any jamma cab for this i will. if not i thought bringing it back to life as a multi was good sorry to offend but its just a wood box no harness ps monitor pcb just box and coindoor and cp.

Sorry Partygt,

Just being a grump. It seems like every other thread these days is about a 60 n 1 or a Mame cab.

BYOAC covers that stuff pretty well.

If you do a conversion, do me a favor and if you're going to refinish the cabinet...try and gently remove the old laminate. Lots of folks, including myself, really need replacement laminate for restorations of Midway cocktails. Nothing close to the old laminate is for sale, it is a pretty unique pattern/color.

I know I'd pay a decent amount for the front/lower back laminate if you could pull it off in one piece without cracking it. Like $150 range...

This way, you can convert away and know you still helped preserve a classic somewhere.

Just a (wishful) thought

My 60n1 cocktail started its second life about like yours, but didn't have any panels at all. I would say I saved it from the dump as opposed to ruining it. Now its in my living room with my own CPs waiting for me to one day put those pacman CPs I bought in IL on vacation and those pac sticks I bought months later trom that lady in TX back together.

Now, if you kept the original panels you could still do a 60, but maybe cull it down to left, right, shoot games like galaxian, galaga, space invaders, the end, etc. that might be cool. I have one like yours I have been thinking about doing this to. (I have a dedicated galaxian CT as well)

If you want a panel that will fit where you could do a pac stick and maybe a button (if you drill one) this might be what you're looking for.

Its for converting galaxian to pacman.

I bought a set of those from arcadeshop, They didn't fit right. They don't have the correct bend . When the plexi is mounted to the panel and the panel is place in position you can't screw it in at the base of the panel. May have to bend if Arcadeshop has any left.

partygt,

I recently acquired a Pacman cocktail cabinet, which at some point had been converted to Galaxian. Currently I am working on restoring the cabinet, base is crumbling, laminate chipped off on one of the control panels, etc.

I have removed the power supply, wiring harness and PCB. I would like to find someone looking to restore a Galaxian (cocktail or upright) to sell the package to. If you are interested PM me and let me know.

Ive made a 60 in 1 out of a galaxian cocktail. You can use a couple different joysticks. Ive used the japanese kind, think that they are sanwa. Also, a nintendo joystick will work as well. But you do have to redrill a whole for it. Which i have fixed the old panel two different ways. One was to have a metal shop weld a slug in the old hole and then redrill a hole lower on the cp to work better. The other was to just cover the old hole with a cpo and then place plexi over the cp so no one could poke through the old hole

Its mostly empty, not converted, at least, not yet anyway. Restoring it back to a working dedicated Galaxian would be good but that doesn't always happen. Boards are not expensive but I wouldn't care for buying a monitor (maybe you have a spare). You could go 60-in-1 and use a LCD, if you want the picture to look crappy. Hell, I don't know what I would do.

I managed to use the old flipper hole for my joystick. I used zippy joysticks from paradise arcade, and epoxy glued the base underneath. I also had to cut a small section of metal on the backside to make room for the cherry switches. It was a major pain in the ass, and it was done only at the customer's request. It looked really nice when done and I kept the look of the original panel. Here's what it looked like when finished:

I would say that the monitor is definitely the most prohibitive part to turning it back into a Galaxian. Everything else can be had pretty readily. You COULD do an LCD with an original Galaxian board and a scan-doubler, though.

I had a Galaxian CT just like this once upon a time; I got bored with the gameplay pretty quickly.
