Having problems with my ball count unit on my EM pinball machine. Game starts up fine and will play but it is always stuck on ball 1 and never changes, if I turn the wipers manually the number changes but it won't do it on its own. Also since the the ball count unit isn't working the game never ends, it just keeps kicking out balls. Any ideas?

Unit dirty/gummy?

Wire broken off it?

All switches on it clean & adjusted properly?

The coils on it good?

Broken/worn coil stop or sleeve?

I'd be willing to bet that it is a dirty unit. It will need to be torn apart and greased. Same problem on a shuffle bowl that I have. You can rotate it and it works but it won't self-rotate.

The machine is Super Straight, I will give it a good cleaning and see if that works and check on the coils also. I was working on and off before buy now nothing.

One problem I've run into before is the connectors from the bottom to the head...make sure they are clean and making good contact.I had a Bally EM that was doing that and it was just a bad connection.BTW,my Super Straight has a really basic instruction card in it but it does say "Super Straight" on it...want me to scan it for you?

Sure that would be great, mine is missing both instruction cards. How is the weather over there, snow I imagine? All of my in-laws live in Alberta with most of them in Edmonton, we usually make it out there a few times a year. I was there this summer for about 10 days and couldn't find anywhere that had pinball machines to play. We went to the West Edmonton mall but the I guess they closed down the arcade that was near all the rides. Is there somewhere in Edmonton that has some pins to play?

i haven't worked on a EM in like 20 years but I seem to remember that ball count gets a pulse from the score motor to advance the unit. I'm sure someone that works on these can verify where it gets its pulse from. Good luck....
