I am sure this has been discussed somewhere but I can't find anything. I want to replace all the bulbs in both my EM puck bowler and pitch and bat machines. I believe they are all original and a lot of blown and burnt tips. Right now there is a mixture of bulbs that appears to be random, #55, #47, and #44. Should I just replace them all with #47 and call it a day or what bulb or bulbs do you guys recommend? Also how about a good source for bulbs?

The #47 and #44 should be replaced with #47s. There was a blinking bulb for EM pins and I think that the number was 55. If you replace a blinker with a lanp that is alwasys on you will lose the original look of the game.

#44 are 6.3v @ 250mA
#47 are 6.3v @ 150mA

It's preferable replace all #44 with #47 because they're the same size, the #47 is almost equally bright, but the #47 draws less power and runs cooler. This way you're putting less stress on the power supply, the wiring, and you're less likely to melt plastic. There's a writeup here (link).

Ah, mystery solved. Years ago I saw an Aztec with blinking lights behind the "Game Over" sigh. I always wondered if my machine was just broken, but this must be the answer. Thanks, Ken!

Eliminate all 44's!

In my 67' Midway Cobra Puck Bowler I use 47's and in the flash portion 55's (under the formica playfield). I did try to use 455's (flashers) in the "Player UP" portion of my puck bowler thinking that it would stand out to the player. It actually was more of a hassle.

Because of the color scheme of my game I may try 47R's (red non flashing) now available to see if it stands out to the player more. I often have six player games.

In my pitch and bat I did use 455's behind some of the players as that's the way it was when I purchased the game once up and running mechanically restored, etc. 47's in the rest of the backglass/backbox. Under the targets I use 55's think there are 5 or 6 on my 63' WMS Major League.

Eliminate the 44's they'll delaminate any back glass or plexi, and melt playfield plastics. I use Pinball Resouce, or Marco's. Never used pinball life but I didn't know they existed either until now.

The only time I've ever purchased 44's is for my Bally Circus Pin. I wanted to eliminate the red plastic tubes in the top of the play field under the metal. So I purchased 44R's which is just a red 44.

I experimented with using low wattage florecents above the running man unit and the playfield. Changed the feel of the game went back to incadecents. Major point here is reduce the heat. I'm not so concerned too much about the voltage draw. Although it my take a small nuclear reactor once all twelve of my games are restored. A little Saturday EM humor.

Good luck with your relamping project!

Well I have one for you. On my 63' WMS Major League pitch and bat when you hit a grand slam the have a unit that causes the Grand Slam in 47's in backglass to flicker. Thank god for You Tube as I would of never known that and would have drove myself nuts trying to find the "short" that really didn't exist.

Have a good one!
