Phew...finally finished shopping out the Elvira & The Party Monsters that I picked up months back. I still need to get a blob plastic and coffin decals, but it's clean, fixed, plays fast and smooth 100%. When I got it, it was absolutely filthy...had some playfield wear, the flippers weren't working well (and it had the wrong flipper bats), most of the GI was dead due to burnt connectors and incorrect re-wiring...

So - here are some "Before" pics....

Right out of a warehouse where it had been sitting for years...both ramp entrance signs are cracked, one Boogieman is missing...

The ghost under the Monster Slide return is worn to the wood...

More wood wear...tiny lettering is a PAIN IN THE ASS to touch up!!!!

Dirty dirty & the BAT letters are worn a bit.

Look at the dirt I found after removing stuff!!!!

Oooh, nails instead of the actual metal pieces that are supposed to be there...

Here's a shot of the ghost touchup. It was really hard to match the white since the top of the ghost's head was under the original mylar. Pure white was too clean/bright..I had to dirty it a bit to match...

Here are the alternate boogiemen I used...I might order the originals, though...

Here's my touchup of the BBQ area and the "When Flaming" text...It's not perfect, but I tried about 6 or 7 times before I got it like this...at that point I said "GOOD ENOUGH!" ..the purple's a bit darker...but from the players POV, you can't even tell.

Damn dude, your touch-up skills are pretty stellar. I'm going to have to try to contract you for any touch-up I may need in the future : )

Great shop job overall. Looks wicked.

Most excellent work! You know, the more I see this title, the more I want it. It looks like it is more indepth than scared stiff. What is your comparison opinion of the two now that you have a minty party monsters?

Thanks! I've done bettter (my Guns n Roses touchups were more seamless) ...but at the end of the day, this game looks WAY better than how I found it...so - while not perfect, it's better than what it was.

Ya know, for a picture thread - my "after" pics could have been better...I can't find the battery charger for my "good" camera, though...hehe. As soon as I do I'll reshoot some of these.

I just updated the shop-out pics w/ better ones.... :)

As for the two games...I kinda like Party Monsters better than Scared Stiff. Stiff has the "modern factor", more voices, lots of little critters jumping around..but the layout is REALLY simple, and for me -the music is too "serious" and epic for the theme. Party Monsters can be simple too - especially since the ramp shots return to the same flipper and you can just keep hitting the same ramp over and over. I'm not sure it has "more to do" than SS, since SS has modes ...but, it feels like there's more to shoot and more reason to add variety to your shots than SS. I like the flip-open coffin targets, the boogiemen, and the way the multiball start launches the balls over into the bumpers.

We've been playing it in pinmame today. I had never even tried it out!

I really like the art and the layout. I agree that the audio package kicks butt in SS, but there is just something about party monsters that appeals to me. Not to mention this one is half (or less) the price!

We aren't clicking much with Jurassic Park, so I think eventually I'll have to trade/sell it and this is one I'll have my eye on.

Yeah, JP's gotten a bit of hype in the past few years, but honestly I don't think that it's that great. It's sort of a sloppy mash-up of Lawlor's Addams, Funhouse, and Whirlwind designs, but doesn't really surpass any of them. I also found the sound package to be a bit annoying (aside from the John Williams theme that plays occasionally). I like the dino and shaker motor, but it gets old quickly, IMO. That being said - Elvira might get old too! ...I think it has more charm, though.

Great job on the clean up and touch up. I am sure that took you hours to get to that point.

I have a couple of pins that need to get that kind of attention. Just dreading the long hours ahead once I start.

I think it seemed longer than it actually was...from tear-down to finish, it was about a week..but that's with doing a couple things each day...definitely put 20-30 hours into it.

That looks awesome. I've been wanting one of these and there is one for sale near me for $1000, but I passed on it because it has a lot of playfield wear. A quick look online and I couldn't find too many parts. Are parts/decals very hard to find for this?

nice work.. How many hours did that take? That game is a blast.

I have seen this game a hundred times but just now I am wondering about the title of the game.... scared "stiff" I can't believe it took this long for me to get the title.

I wonder if she would have enlarged her assets even more whether they would have produced a sequel?

This is Elvira and the Party Monsters, not Scared Stiff.

As for Elvira, I'm pretty sure hers are natural and just pushed up big time in the costume. FWIW, she's a TRUE red head in real life. ;)

Probably 20-30. It seemed longer, since it was over the course of a week or two...sometimes just doing a touchup in one spot per day, or filling in a stripped screw hole w/ wood filler. I also spent some time doing some board repair, as there were a lot of burnt pins and connectors.

Looks great!
Did you do any polishing on the ramps? They look so clear in the after pics!

Just w/ Novus 2, then Novus 1. I don't have any experience w/ flame polishing...maybe one day! Even though the ramps are now clean and clear, you can still see the ball track on it....flame polish would get rid of that.
