So I picked this XL up a while back, very cheap with no drive...finally got one installed and works great, but no joy from the touchscreen.

Pulling the touchscreen controller out of the case, some guy wrote "BAD?" on it, so I'm taking that as a hint the previous owner couldn't get it working either.

Anybody know anything about these?
http://www.elotouch.com/Support/TechnicalSupport/Controllers/2310.asp

After close inspection, during POST, I get "Controller not detected" and "No touchscreen controller found".

So....I'm wondering could it be a driver issue, or is the unit really bad? If so, anybody ever replace one of these serial controllers? Just a simple matter of replacing the controller, or maybe fixing it?

I've already talked to Dave at the Megatouch store and he wants to sell me a new 3M MicroTouch touchscreen unit. Call me cheap, but I'm just trying to exhaust all other options before doing that, especially if just a bad controller can be replaced or repaired. There's a Telco tube monitor in it, so an all-in-one LCD touchscreen isn't an option.

Thoughts are appreciated.

Does the green light get bright on the controller when you turn it on? It should also flicker when you touch the touchscreen.

Make sure you are using the serial port. I think it will only work on com1 as well. So if you have it in one serial port, try the other.

Thanks

I had some Megatouch projects, and was missing a controller. I just bought a used one off ebay for cheap, plugged it in and it worked. Maybe I got lucky, but I'd look for one there.

Well, I had no diagnostic LED at all, so I checked all the connectors and noticed the P4 connector wasn't hooked up to anything - after a quick glance at that schematic, that's the power connector. So I connected it to one of the 4-pin power supply molexes, and it sprang to life.

However, it's still not working. It's connected to COM1. I get a solid LED, and according to the page in my previous post, a solid LED without touch indicates power on self-test failure. The attached screenshot confirms this with Error code 20-04. Not sure if this means there's a connection problem between the serial port and the controller, or the controller and the touchscreen... Help!

Anybody know how the jumpers are supposed to be set?

Mods - can you move this to Technical/General repair. Sorry I accidentally posted this in the General discussion... :001_ssad:

Hey Dan, I was wondering if you were gonna chime in! You still haven't sold that thing?? ;)
Thanks man!

Nahh, Ive had offers, and it was almost sold but the buyer backed out with the unexpected bill line. I dont need to sell it, so Ill try again around the holidays.

I'm having the same issue with an ELO LCD screen. Did anyone get any where with this? Sometimes the computer would recognize the screen and I am able to play fine. Then sometimes during play the touch system would not register so I am stuck with turning the machine off. After booting again, it would say no controller found. So fustrating.

When it's not working, have you put a meter on it to test the 5v? It might be a questionable power supply.

the com ports seem to be good. The parts are grounded right. I'm not sure what I should meter on the power supply, the outputs to the motherboard? I'll probably try that this this reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT_(form_factor)

I'm thinking of unseathing the top board from the main motherboard and have a look. Then I will open up the monitor to check it's controller.

Since it worked twice, I don't think it's the driver.

Have you tried hooking the screen up to a PC and trying it? That would isolate the problem to the monitor or Megatouch setup. You can download drivers from the ELO site, and then just plug it into a PC.

To whom are you referring? It seems my thread has been hijacked by a group of thugs...:D My first post shows it hooked to a PC screen.

I'm actually going to clean the screen tonight and re-try. I just read on Merit's website that buildup of crud on the touchscreen (around the inside edges of the bezel) can affect the capacitance which obviously affects it's functionality.

scottz29's - I'm having the same issue as you, so I thought I would post in the same thread. Let me know if you get anywhere.

I think the issue for me is in the board itself. I tested the the monitor and the HD on another computer and it looks to be fine.

scottz29 - Can you take a pic of your actual controller ? Does it appear to be factory or a replacement screen/controller of sorts ?

My understanding from looking through the Megatouch XL (Titanium Edition) files is that they utilize the MicroTouch TouchWare software. Which is obviously for Microtouch controllers.

I'm asking because I'd like to know for sure if an ELO touchscreen will work with these or not.
I'm in the process of building a Megatouch project and I know it works fine with all of my 3M Microtouch monitors, but they are too big for this project so I'm looking at maybe using a 15" ELO instead. (the ELO is available locally but haven't ever tried one on this)

EDIT: Just looked back at the orginal post and realized that IS a pic of the controller itself. Also noticed the boot up shows ELO drivers being run..... hmmmm...... will have to watch mine boot up again and see if it does the ELO part too.

Have you tried hopping into the BIOS and seeing if maybe someone that didn't know what they were doing disabled the serial port there? (or changed it to a setting that the software isn't detecting)

I looked around and couldn't see anything in the BIOS settings related to the serial ports. They do get detected, and a hex address is displayed on one of the bootup screens.

I bought a new 3M MicroTouch screen & controller from Dave at the megatouchstore, and that's not working either.

Not being sure if a serial mouse would behave the same way, I plugged one of those in, and no love there either. I have NO idea where to start troubleshooting this thing.

Megatouch 2008.5 can't get ELO touchscreen to work

I have a Megatouch force EVO that I upgraded to 2008.5 software. It runs the 3M Microtouch controller and LCD monitor but the LCD monitor went out. I'm trying to get my machine working with an ELO intellitouch 15" touchscreen. The touchscreen works fine on a PC but the megatouch doesn't recognize it. I've tried to switch the motherboard dipswitch (6) to rescan the hardware and every time it tries to load the microtouch driver. Never do I see it try to load the ELO driver first in the boot process (as I've read in other posts). I'm fearful that Merit removed the support for ELO screens in more recent software releases? Does anyone have any information or insight into a step I may be missing to enable support for the ELO touscreen. To note, after boot I get the "Touch Screen Controller Error."
