I've recently re-discovered Elevator Action Returns... having played a few games this morning I must admit... the game kicks ass.

Once you get past the crappy elevator controls vs the original things get better. The graphics and presentation are top notch. The gameplay is similar enough to the original to be recognizable though different enough to make this a very good game on it's own.

If you've not tried Elevator Action Returns before... I'd recommend firing it up on MAME and giving it a try.

One of the noteworthy Taito F3 games. It's definitely awesome.

I hope to have a Taito F3 setup some day with EAR, Bubble Symphony, and a few others. Probably get it setup in a Dynamo cab.

I saw one at the hotel we stayed at in Hawaii a couple of weeks ago. I didn't know there was a generic art kit for it. It was basically Taito's version of the MVS that they called Cybercore System. Here's a pic I took with my phone:

The game is da bomb. There's so much animation and action that it feels Metal Slug-ish.

Speaking of sluggish, it needs (or at least used to need) some pretty good hardware to run on for MAME. Otherwise, it crawls.

Just tried it...not bad. I see what you mean about the elevators. It has to travel to the next/previous floor before it stops, whereas on the original, you can sit and move up and down between levels and shoot the enemies.
