Elevator Action restore

Well, we will see what happens, I am spraying latex due to the unavailability of oil based.

Base coat is on, and looks GOOD! Looks like an almost spot on match to the original. Front stencil went on beautiful! I think the key is to put on the stencil and seal the edges with a coat of paint from your base coat. I ended up going to thick on the stencil, so i just wiped all the paint back off with a paper towel and did it again. Ive got really sharp crisp lines. Cant wait to see how the second color looks! Might get it on this weekend if i have time.

Stencilling with latex is not to bad. There were a few small spots the the stencils pulled up on the base coat, but they are small and i can touch up with a brush. Just make sure to pull the stncils when the paint is still tacky. And DEFINITELY seal the edges of the stencil with the base coat color first, i got absolutely 0 bleed! I do believe it is going to need a matte clear coat after a few days to protect the latex though.

Also managed to save a little arcade history:D I was able to successfully transplant the Lucky lucy amusements sticker back on to the new coin door. Was also able to reuse the power supply tag after derusting and cleaning the power box. A little bit of standard glue stick did the trick! And here are my Sherwin Williams colors I used.

Thanks for posting the colors. Did you take a chip of paint in to have matched? How did you come up with the color for SW?

didn't have a paint chip as this was an alpine. But looking at many different cabs on the internet, I kind of eyeballed and spent about 45 minutes going through color swatches. Im not sure EA ever really had a "dedicated" color ive seen so many variations of the tan / brown, So I liked this one the best. I found a pic of a restored cab online and eyeballed the colors. So my paints are just for reference. If you like the colors use them. ;)

It looks good. Glad it turned out nice. I'm planning an EA build in a new cabinet, and am considering going a custom color route..

All done with paint and touch-up. Only thing that's left is to give it a quick coat of matte clear. I was going to rattle can the clear, does anyone have any suggestions on what to use or another way to protect the paint?

2 things come to my mind. Make sure that whatever you use is compatible with that paint, as in, won't attack/lift it. Also, you'll likely need to scuff it so the clear will 'bite'. The original finish didn't have a clear on it, though, and if you scratch the clear, you'll likely scratch the paint, so I wouldn't bother. The one Taito cabinet I've restored/restenciled (so far), Jungle King, I used oil based gloss Sherwin Williams, matched to the greens. Gloss black RustOleum for the front/top/back.

my problem is I used latex, so im trying to protect it from minor bumps or scratches. I figure ive got to use something. I wish we still had oil based paints..........

T-moulding installed, and starting to go back together..........

had a slight issue with the new bezel I ordered. It was too big! I couldn't figure out for the life of me why. As I looked closer at the cab, I saw that for some reason or another someone had "blocked up" the bezel rails. Has anyone ever seen this before? Once I pried those off and put them back in the slots, I thought I was good, however that wasn't the case. The rails themselves were not wide enough to allow the glass bezel to slide in easily. I had to swap out rails with another cab and then voila! She's almost done. Have to do some monitor work, fix the sounds on the pcb and do a little shaving on the new back door and she'll be ready to move in place.

I love Elevator Action. What a great game. Maybe one day I'll be able to get one. Thanks for posting your work. All this info will be helpful for me when I restore my Jungle King.

Looks great.

Another delay, but I finally started working on mine again. I'm building a new harness so the filter board can be bypassed. I'm also going the full LED route so I can ditch the original large transformer assembly.

The transformer is also the iso for the monitor. A lesser point, you can easily connect the AC for the switcher to the existing thing if you get the correct Amp commercial mate n lok housing and pins. Makes for a clean install.
