Bought this game sight unseen except for these four pics. All in all it didn't look too bad from what I could tell.

also found all the wiring was hacked, monitor was disassembled and the chassis mounted to the side of the cab, wiring was hacked, monitor shroud was cut (not sure why) and was 4 inches short on the side and bottom and would not fit into the channels, chips on the board were rusted, and edge connector was corroded

Sanded the sides and front down to bare wood. Next step is im going to use minwax wood hardener around the edge of the cabinet and on the sides where it was scratched or nicked through the paint and "fuzzed out" from moisture. Then after sanding that im going to bondo and fill in any low spots. I also need to build a new base and lower back panel which is warped from moisture and not salvageable.

Due to a lot of missing parts, and availability of said parts (wiring harness, monitor shroud, ect) I have purchased a donor machine that is complete, but has a cab in bad shape. Im sure the cab could possibly be restored, but for now mine is in better shape. I may restore the donor cab at some point, or sell it and the remaining parts I don't need.

damn - i love the stlye/shape and artwork on those Taito cabs but they were not built that great- would be nice if they were plywood... they always seem to get swollen edges / fuzz

Also, the monitor shroud for Alpine Ski is vertical and what you need for EA is horizontal. They're different.

I figured that they were different, for the bezel instruction lights, but looking closer at the pic of the open back it look like it has the horizontal shroud. You can see the indent on the right hand side seems to go all the way up, and the one for alpine ski should only have a half bezel instruction light which shouldn't be visible in the pic if that was the case. (don't know if that made much sense, kinda hard to explain, but take a close look at the pic on the right side and youll see what I mean. As for the remainder, the alpine ski will be for sale when im done. It will be a project, and need a few pieces, but should be mostly complete. I may even restore it before selling.

Cool and good luck. I remember 20yrs ago I you couldn't give the Taito cabinets away. There aren't a ton of Alpine Skis left, and even in a so-so condition, it's intact and someone will want to restore that!

For sure! No harm will come to it.:D I just don't have any interest in Alpine Ski. If its worth it, I may try to restore it and then sell it.

I finally started my Elevator Action project back up (you motivated me). I took the cabinet apart and I'm working on each panel individually. My cab was a Wild Western conversion, so I'll be redoing it in that color scheme.

I think I remember reading you were looking for stencils and asking about the set from GameStencils having the "Taito Corporation" text on the bottom. I'm interested in knowing that as well if you received an answer. Anyways, good luck with your project. I guarantee you'll have a finished example before I do.

Yes, I did manage to find out that they do in fact have the copyright at the bottom, I ordered a set yesterday. it looks like they have a couple weeks turn around time though. But ive heard great things about them, and I can wait for quality.:)
