Eight Ball Deluxe - doesn't go into demo mode or coin up to start a game
Hey guys,
I picked up an Eight Ball Deluxe last night and did a quick check overall check of the machine. Heres what I found...
-game seems to do initial boot up fine...it has a newer Alltek MPU with a remote battery holder. The remote battery holder had a bit of corrosion...I popped out old batteries and popped in new ones...scraped away some of the remaining corrosion. Could that be a culprit if some corrosion on the remote holder still remains? I figured it should still boot up since that typically just saves scores and settings (right?) The MPU shows the proper flashing light sequence and game makes the initial boot up sound but doesn't go into any sort of demo mode. Do the dip switches need to be set specifically for it work with EBD?
-the sqauwk and talk seems to work fine...it talks when I hit the test button
-when I hit the test mode button the various "tests" don't seem to proceed properly. The displays stay at 0 or 9, only two of the pop bumper solonoids fire of all the solenoids. The bulb test has some of the bulb sections flashing, but other sections don't.
-coining up does nothing and there are no sounds to act as if it's even registering a new coin. No wires appear disconnected.
-4 of the five displays work...the credit display does nothing.
-fuses in cabinet below playfield checked out fine. No obvious swollen caps anywhere
I'm not very knowledgeable of pins and I've never owned a Bally so any advice on where to start would be appreciated! Assume I know very little
Overall it was a great find. Backglass is in great shape, playfield looks pretty good (some touch ups were done), cabinet is in great shape, and the plastics are actually still in good shape.
Not sure if it's a keeper but I have a feeling it I'm gonna get hooked once I get it going.
Help!
