How much does the pinout of Ehrgeiz differ from a normal JAMMA board? For the people that happen to have this board or cab, is a kick harness needed, or does it just use the optional button 4 pin on the JAMMA harness for the 4th button?

Thanks in advance!

Well dang... unfortunately this is looking like it'll be more of a hassle then it's worth to play the game.... :/

you are looking for a Namco Kick Harness.
They are uncommon and people usually keep them with their system 11/12 boards.

The problem is that you need 3 more buttons per player. For Namco Kick harnesses people have come up with the good idea of jumpering buttons to the two unused pins next to the grounds. This works good if you don't intend to frequently swap out boards in that cab.

Looks like for that particular game, I only need button 4.......

Think I could jump that over to button 4 on my cab (wired on the JAMMA harness next to button 3) without fear?

and how essential are those extra power traces going in from the kick harness? seems strange to me that they're even there - are they for a secondary amplifier for stereo sound?

Yeah I would jump it from the 48 pin edge over to those empty jamma pin and wire one up to your harness.
It also keeps it harmless if you plug another board up to this cab.

Yeah jumpering may be your only option if you want to play it any time soon. You could search for hours through a giant pile of hen's teeth and not find a single namco kick harness, it took me 6 months or so to trip across any after I picked up my Soul Edge board. Apparently once the factory that was making them shut down, nobody bothered to start making them again as there just wasn't enough demand, so what's out there is out there and most folks hang on to theirs.

Jumper it hopefully in a reversable fashion and keep a sharp eye for one of the kick harnesses to come up somewhere. I finally managed to snag a pair from dj_dns, one for the soul edge and one for another board which is even harder to find than the kick harnesses. He has enough parts go in and out of his place you may want to PM him to see if he can trip across another one.

Enjoy the Ehrgeiz, I remember the game being fun as hell and it'd be cool to get my hands on the board one of these days, though that's way down the priority list for me at the moment.

yeah they are so rare that I'm holding on to the 2 that I have.

Got ya. Well, if you want an Ehergeiz board... who knows how long I'll keep this one - I may end up not even using it.

I wonder - are buttons 3 and 4 on the JAMMA pinout unused/don't go to anything on the actual board? If so, maybe it'd be possible to jumper over to those, from the 48-pin, to make it compatible with any 4-button JAMMA... That frankly sounds a whole lot easier to me, if it'd work...

I wonder just how necessary the 5v lines on the 48-pin are - seems to me like they may just be for stereo audio amplification.

yeah they are so rare that I'm holding on to the 2 that I have.
Why keep 2?

Just to clarify, if I've got a 4-button JAMMA cab (4th button is wired up as it would be in a Neo Geo cab - on the pin right next to button 3), could I just add a wire between the button 4 pin on the kick harness connector, and the empty pin on the JAMMA connector on the board, where the 4th button is in the harness?

Fired up the board and it works great, kinda would like to play it with the ability to block, though.
