would like to know. Nintendo has two systems out at the same time. I'm disabled and so is a friend of mine. We both like playing video games. I like playing video games I grew up with(Super Mario), and education games(games that broden my mind). I heard the DS lets u play educational games and has a tool which allows u to write on the screen. I heard Nintedo Wii can be played by a person with mobility in one hand. i don't know if the Playstation or XBOX have any of these features. My friend and I are also novices when it comes to operations of video game systems, so it would be nice if it were easy to figure out. I would like to know if my one handed friend will be able to use any of thes e systems to play video games effectively(is it joystick compatible). If so, where can he find the stuff to adapt the software to his disability and how much would it run him? I just like to play simple games(racing, math, pack man), and I heard the DS is ideal for me(simple minded person). Help?!

The Nintendo Wii is the most advanced game console made by Nintendo. The Wii is best known for its original controller design, resembling a remote wand and meant to be used with one hand.

The Xbox 360 is the second console created by Microsoft Inc. in an effort to get into the gaming industry.

The Playstation 3, called the PS3 for short, is the latest game console made made by Sony. The PS3 is designed to play games from all 3 Playstation consoles (PS, PS2, and PS3), as well as play DVDs, but not all Playstation and Playstation 2 games are playable on the Playstation 3. The Playstation 3 games are in High Definition, and the PS3 itself is 4 times faster than its predecessor. Another new addition is the wireless controller, with abilities similar to the Nintendo Wii, but not quite at the same degree. At over $600, it is the most-expensive successful game console.

The Nintendo DS is a handheld game console with built in clock and other features, with abilities to play Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, as well as DS cartridges.

welcome to the site.
both the xbox and the ps3 use both thumbs to control alot of stuff.
The Wii has the controller that you can use 1 hand/arm and play alot of games.
there are several games for the wii which do require a controller in both hands(boxing is the first one that comes to mind)
I know nothing about the DS

hope this helps, some more people will chime in i'm sure

I dont know how easy they are to find, but Ive seen custom and manufactured one handed controllers for multiple systems in browsing internet video game sales sites.

Build Your Own Arcade Controls has a thread dedicated to assisting disabled gamers in any way possible(controller mods etc.)

Is your friend able to move his arm that has no hand mobility? I ask because I have a one handed friend who has the rest of his arm but no hand and whoops my arse in some video games just using the regular controllers-he has been working on his techniques for a long time though and plays all current systems.

Most games on the wii require 2 hands as well, unfortunately. Either, you are supposed to turn the remote, and use it like an original nintendo remote, or you will need the nunchuck. If you still have use of your legs, you could always try getting into the dance games and/or wii fit. Or, a lot of the turn based rpg games don't really require you to be quick with the movement, so you'd probably be fine with one hand.
