I was going to use stainless polished steel sheets. You can find them in very thin sizes. I had some here when you picked it up but forgot to show you it. I was going to lay the old pieces down and trace them out.

I used .105 inch acrylic mirror in mine and it was as good or better then original. Fit fine, and you could cut with a table saw and drill screw holes as long as you took your time. The thinner metal material would be great too, but in my opinion the thin acrylic mirror was a great option. It will scratch if you aren't careful, but so did the original stuff. Think it cost me like 20 bucks.
