You'll need to drill down the center of the screw (good luck) then use a small EZ-out. The key will be extracting the screw without f'ing up the threads in the joystick shaft.

went to menards at lunch...and to my surprise...they had a security bit set for 4$. so i brought it home and was able to get the four lower screws out. I took a dremel on the top screw and made a slot since i was unable to get it out with the bits...i got it out without damaging the surrounding area....but the shaft of the dremel touched the edge of the plastic and now i have an indentation on the joystick...F*%K!! There goes my plan to have a nice original joystick....Guess GGG is getting another order....:/

Depending on the damage, I'm sure you can sell that OG joystick without too much trouble.

I'd still re-use it if it were me. That stick is in really nice shape.

heres the damage....pisses me off! I did want to re-use it...but knowing me...it will bug me forever!

Just mix up some clear epoxy with a touch of blue dye (food coloring) and no one will know the difference. Fill in the holes, let it set, and file/sand it to fit the contours.

The new ones look much better than the old. Mine was in great shape, but didn't hesitate for a second while replacing it.

The new ones from GGG are made from the original mold so they are really the exact same as the originals just newer. Although I kept my original joystick plastics from my tron because it was the second game that I ever bought I still replaced the joystick plastics on the game with the GGG repros. I simply kept the originals for sentimental value. I sold the actual game to a friend of mine and kept a tron that I got from a different friend which I restored. Original is great but I promise you the repros are truly as good as any NOS would be if not better.

For what it's worth if you run into this issue again and are dead set on keeping the originals they do sell screw extractor sets at places like home depot. Basically you drill a small pilot hole with a regular drill bit and then use the extractor bit. These bits thread backwards so you use a drill in reverse and once they bite into the screw the drill basically unscrews the screw you are trying to remove. So not much risk of damage like the dremel did.
