Hello all
I'm working on a EDOT that has issues with it's flourscent lights. They don't light up reliably.
Background art: will not light unless I touch the bulb and then only sometimes it will light.
Backlight above CP: sometimes it will light sometimes it won't, mostly it won't light. I've replaced this bulb-same issues.
Above the monitor backlight: it's out, can't reach it...

I've read about a board in the game that controls the flashing of the Flourscent lights, and also how these lights don't use starters.
Any info on how to debug these suckers would be appreciated.

Tom

Yeah, the two boards there on the right side (looking from the back) hold partial voltage to the bulbs in order to turn them on and off quickly. It's all in the schematics if you want to check the parts. Also, look for starters in there for some of the lights.

The blacklight inside - you have to remove the mirror and an interior bezel (or two) plus a few brackets to get to it...

Thx for the replies.
I just ordered the relays just because they're so old.
I'm kind of thinking maybe no power is getting to these boards. I ran the lighting self test and did not hear the relay clicking sound I've read about. Can someone tell me where on the boards I could test for voltage and what I should see?
Thx
Tom

Replace the relays. Check my EDOT page on my website for details.

Ha, just realized I never updated my web page with the part number for the relays...

I found my notes from 2002, not sure if Mouser still carries them:

"You can order replacement relays from Mouser for like
$7 a piece. The original part is KHS-17D11-12V. Turns out Mouser carries
KHAU-17D11-12 which is the exact same part except the casing is
polycarbonate vs steel case."

Thanks Mark. I looked @ your website and also searched old RGVAC postings to find the relay numbers - yep that's what I ordered.
Can you tell me if the tests are with J1 or J2 connectors?

I'm going to clean up the power brick this weekend and replace all the fuses...looks like a cat lived in it for awhile...lots of dirt and hair? In the bottom.

Update...
I cleaned up the power brick and fuse holders.
I rec'd my new relays for the flourescent relay boards and installed them.
Replaced the background light tube and the black light tube over the control panel.
Powered up...no change. :^( No fluorescent lighting.

I checked the power going to the Flashing Fluorescent board and got 4.85 at the board pins so it's getting power. The backart bulb is partially lit on the ends like it sounds it should be. The new lights relays are not making any sounds in lighting self test.

I can see this is going to be a real PIA to figure out.

Any other tips would be appreciated.

Tom

Balls. It seems like I'm never gonna get an EDOT (boo-hoo). No one seems to want my $$.

I bought an EDOT manual/service bulletin lot a couple months ago. Included was a SB on mis-wired fluorescents from the factory. It supposedly only affected a small amount of units, but it had to be enough to issue a SB. Anyway, when I get time tonight or tomorrow, I'll scan them and upload them here. That may have something to do with your problem.

EDIT: I've uploaded the service bulletins and they can be downloaded from DoT's KLOV page, http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=7594

Update: I picked up a working flashing flourscent board from another KLOV member and my lights flourscent lights are working now. I'd like to debug the board I have and get it working so I can have it as a backup... but for now, they're working!

Happy Holidays,
Tom
