EBay now makes you set up an account if you lose a case with a buyer that they instantly take the funds from. What total BS. Its bad enough you can't leave negative feedback anymore now they will take the funds directly from your accounts and give them to the seller. I've been seller for years and never had to do this before. I'm about done with eBay and their garbage. Anyone else get this same message when trying to post a listing?

I have not tried to sell anything as of late.I'm pretty much done selling on ebay as the fees are getting ridiculous.I will continue to buy since they don't charge you a fee for buying something. (yet)

I haven't sold anything recently, but this doesn't surprise me, eBay has been going down the crapper for years. Their fee structure is ridiculous, and they have become way too buyer friendly as of late as well. The worst policy change they've had in recent years is the cap on how much you can charge for shipping on video games. I think it caps out at something like 5 dollars or less, which is barely even enough to cover priority shipping, and god forbid you use media mail, the buyer bitches about how it takes forever and the post office ends up treating your package like crap.

I'm honestly surprised that no one tried an anti-trust suit against eBay when they forced you to use PayPal, that has always been a clear violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act.

There's zero protect for the seller anymore. They just hammer the seller with BS fees and policies. Just wish there was a " good" alternative

Account

I got hit with that last night. Although it did allow me to use my paypal account as the funding source. I try to keep it and the bank account associated with it drained but I imagine they will suck it out as soon as I get a payment if there is an unhappy seller. Does the chargeback still go through the "investigation process" ? Or is it an instant thing?

It is hard to stay away from Ebay. Basicly it is world wide advertising for a relatively low fee. I do feel like they are pushing the limits more and more though.

$5 is plenty to ship a game first class. average game weight is 5oz with some in the 6oz, 7oz range, ship first class which is as good or even better then priority for max $2.20 with delivery confirmation. Where ebay messes up is flat charge for video game accessories.

Why would you ship any video game media mail?

If all of us started using game gavel it could be a great place for us.
gamegavel is great alternative but it fails at marketing. My plan is to sell on ebay for rest of year and put crossover's onto gamegavel. From what i understand ebay deletes the auctions that have links to gamegavel in them however when i ship a game i will put a nice printout card directing my customers to take a look at the alternative and put a price comparison on it of what they just bought gamegavel vs ebay.

I think SoCalMike needs all the free marketing help he can get and his fees well they are really really nice. Just need the traffic.

Nobody outside a few very small communities knows what Game Gavel is. Rare stuff some random person found and is just trying to get rid of is not going to show up there, it will be on eBay. Sellers who are looking for top returns will continue to sell on eBay because those random buyers who buy Ms. Pac circuit boards for $250 will not find Game Gavel.

Frankly, until Game Gavel starts an effective advertising campaign sellers will be better off listing things on the message boards.

You know what though. Here's a price difference on Buy It Nows.

$49.99 game - $7.50 (15%) - .50 (listing) = $41.99 through ebay.
$49.99 - $1.99 (4%) - FREE (listing) = $48. Gamegavel. As you can see i have $6 to mess with so in reality i can drop the game $4 and make more money on gamegavel!

True the traffic isnt there but there are ways to drive traffic and everyone needs to do their part IMO. In order to drive traffic you will need to sell some on ebay but also sell same item on gamegavel and let your buyers know there IS an alternative either through Thank you emails or little cards in the shipping package.

Yes, but you could have listed the part here and kept the entire $49.99.

Or, you could have listed it on eBay (auction, not BIN) and those uninformed buyers may have pushed the final sale price above $200. I haven't seen any evidence that Game Gavel has the (uninformed) traffic for this kind of overvalued battle.

There are multiple other sites like Game Gavel out there. Just yesterday I was looking at one called 'Auction Actions' or something similar. They had some decent stuff there but it took me less than two minutes to see everything there and realize that my chances of finding anything I am looking for are pretty slim. All of these small companies are competing with one another and eBay making their chances of survival very slim due to their insignificant market share.

EBay and PayPal are monopolies of sort. They should be regulated. If enough people write their elected officials at the federal level, someone is going to get the idea that forcing these companies to behave will be in their best interest to get re-elected.

PayPal, for all intense purposes, is a bank or at least a credit card company, and should be made to act accordingly. EBay has a corner on the market in such a way that it would be difficult for anyone else to compete. In my mind, it is like the phone or cable companies. Once they laid the copper and fiber, they were forced to allow others to use their infrastructure to promote competition. EBay and PayPal need some real competition, and then the market forces will do the rest.

I am writing my congressman today.

Ebay sucks. I have been worried about selling high ticket items on there because as a seller you can get hosed in so many ways.. but when you're dealing with collectibles, it's the best market to sell the stuff, so I get tempted to roll the dice.

I have a few things I am trying to sell, high priced things such as rare guitars, etc., and I just don't like the feeling of taking money that someone can quickly pull back after they have my prized collectible in their hands.. and damage it or just change their mind after messing with it for a week or whatever.

I have got 2 negatives from people swapping parts out of iPhones I sold and returning me a piece of junk phone, because I wouldnt refund them when they gave me an entirely different phone. I also got pegged with a neutral because the post office delayed the package 2 days. I am on the verge of closing my ebay account because of these dickheads I run into. As soon as Google or some other well known internet company makes some sort of auction site, hasta la vista ebay.

Right. Because there's a difference between charter and time warner. Oh wait... they're the same company, as well as the only cable providers around here.
